Leora Jean Simnitt, age 94 of Green, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center.
She was born on December 2, 1929, in Clay Center, the daughter of Clinton and Leottia (Sanneman) Gridley.
On May 7, 1950, she married Myron Leroy Simnitt at her parent’s farm outside of Green. He preceded her in death in 2017.
Leora was a homemaker and a member of the Green Christian Church, Green E.H.U. and Green Ladies Aide. She enjoyed gardening, watching birds, looking at clouds, playing cards, sewing and embroidery, and keeping decades of diaries. She loved baking for her grandkids and watching and attending their sporting events through the years.
She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Slingsby of Green and Dawn Langvardt and husband Greg of Clay Center; one son-in-law, Loran Luthi of Abilene; one sister-in-law, Connie Brown and husband Norman; six grandchildren, Jeremy Slingsby, Kyle Slingsby, Lance Langvardt, Brett Langvardt, Kimberly Brungardt and Melanie Luthi, and twelve great grandchildren, Lukas Slingsby, Kade Slingsby, Piper Slingsby, Leora Brungardt, Braylee Langvardt, Brynley Langvardt, Bayler Langvardt, Ames Langvardt, Helen Brungardt, Mireyah Craig, Marquel Craig, and Sianney Craig.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Judy Luthi; one granddaughter, Deedra Luthi; one grandson, Raymond Luthi; a son-in-law, Warren Slingsby; a sister-in-law, Ethel Olson, and a brother-in-law, Willard Olson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Green Christian Church with Pastor Sarah Gill officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Green Fancy Creek Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Green Christian Church and the Green Cafe. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
