Doris L. Shivers, 92 of Abilene passed away December 23, 2023. She was born November 17, 1931 in Enterprise, the daughter of Forrest Otto Reese and Emma Zimmerman.

Doris went to school in Enterprise through her sophomore year. When her mother passed away in 1950 she went to Hutchinson school to finish high school. Doris married Elvin Monroe. They later divorced. She married Ronald Shivers November 10, 1972 in Manchester Methodist Church. He preceded her in death November 23, 2018. Doris always worked in public places, waiting tables in her younger years. She managed a bakery for seven years and also worked at Memorial Hospital for almost seven years. She joined her husband Ron in the real estate business working in the office as a receptionist and as a clerk at the auctions. She volunteered at American Red Cross and Gray Lady at Memorial Hospital. She was an Ambassador at the Chamber of Commerce. She was a charter member of the Heritage Center, Sand Spring’s Club, Chairman of Christian Board of Education and a board member of the Ladies Auctioneer Association. In 2004 she won the Volunteer of year award.

Doris is survived by her daughter Cindy Monroe of Abilene and one son, Dennis Monroe of Abilene. Grandchildren: Natalie Lober, Melissa Applebee and Alisha. Great-Grandchildren Aiden Applebee and Breanna Applebee. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ron Shivers, great-granddaughter Shiann Lober, brothers Don Reese and Bud James and sister Veline Rutz.

The family has chosen cremation. A Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2023 at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home with inurnment to follow at Prairiedale Cemetery in Talmage. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home.

Family suggests memorials be given to the Tammy Walker Cancer Foundation or the Abilene First Baptist Church. Memorials may be dropped off at the funeral home or mailed to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas 67410.
