Be Able Community, a non-profit organization in downtown Manhattan, is helping those experiencing adversity to create connections, work on their skills and find opportunities to grow.
Be Able provides a daytime center to connect adults to resources including food, a safe, comfortable space to get out of the weather, have access to computers, and make connections with influential people
Eagle Radio with the Schmidt Foundation presented a check for $1,000 to Scott Voos, executive director at Be Able Community on Tuesday afternoon.
"One reason why we're here today is on behalf of Eagle Radio, Power Hits 97.5, QCountry and the Schmidt Foundation that we want you to help out, where we want to help continue your mission. So we've got $1,000. [Whoa! Wow! Thank you] You bet. Thank you for what you do." - Rodney Baker, Power Hits 97.5 & Eagle Radio
"It's a complete surprise. Thank you I had no idea. This obviously helps us. We're a nonprofit completely reliant on you the help of the community of Manhattan without this I can't turn on the electronic, internet, computer usage and things like that. So this is so helpful. Thank you. [You're welcome.]" -Scott Voos, Be Able Community executive director
Over the weekend, Be Able Community received the gift of a new fence being installed on the south side of the property, giving them more privacy and security to the property.
Volunteers from Rock Hills Church spent part of their day building the new fence as part of their 2022 Serve Day, helping around the community.
Little Apple Post's Becky Goff talked with Scott Voos, executive director of Be Able community about the new fence installed over the weekend.
Becky-"All right so this is a brand new fence you're at be able to tell us a little bit about what went into getting this new fence this weekend for you guys."
Scott-"So we've, we've lived with this property for about one year now. And we bought we bought this property as is, it was an old pawn shop. And what we've done is slowly tried to turn it into our homes. And if you think of our home environment, you all you often need some type of security regarding visibility, and that's where this came into play. It's taken a while to come through as being a nonprofit, we don't have quick means that something like this, this is about a $3,000 project. So that's why it's taken a while, but we were blessed to have a local community, Rock Hills Church, phenomenal church community. They have a 'Serve Day' every year, once once per year, and they chose our site. For this year. They came down here and asked, What do you need, what can we do for your community? And we walked around the property and I pointed this direction. I said we really need a fence, we need to both protect our neighbor's visibility and give them that sense of privacy, but also from, from the foot traffic coming in here. There we needed some type of preventative measures for our property."
Becky-"So this is kind of adding a little bit of privacy but also a little bit more security for the area, correct?"
Scott-"Exactly."
Becky-"Anything else coming up for us that we need to know about?"
Scott-"Yeah, definitely we are just we're so close to initiating phase one of our facility improvement and what that means basically implementing our laundry facilities on site right here, where we will open up the doors to the neighbors so they have the ability to clean up wash their clothes. And what we're thinking is that'll help them feel better. We're really excited about that. We are probably one month away."
