Gordon Dean Ryff, 87, passed away peacefully at Stormont Vail Hospital Topeka, Kansas on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, surrounded by his family. Gordon was born on September 24, 1935 in Elmo, Kansas on the family farm. He was the fourth and youngest son of Henry and Erma Ryff. He attended a country school near Elmo during his elementary years and graduated from Hope High School in 1953.
Gordon married Juanita Beem on December 29, 1956, at the Navarre Church of the Brethren. They were married just shy of 66 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and his three older brothers: Kenneth, Marvin, and George. He is survived by his wife, Juanita, of the home; three children, Tony (Kathy) of Wichita, Barb of Abilene, and Mike of Hope (Sheila Mae, fiancé of Carcar City, Philippines); five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
Gordon and his family lived and farmed in the Elmo area. He attended Ebenezer Baptist Church from his youth and was baptized there. As a boy, he was enrolled in Bible Memory Association and memorized hundreds of verses. The training that his mother invested in him served as a foundation for the rest of his life. In addition to farming, he enjoyed serving and helping others. He worked at the Navarre Farm Service Co-op for many years. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends, and he enjoyed woodworking. Gordon was also active in the Navarre Lions Club.
There will be no visitation. Services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ebenezer Baptist Church near Dillon. Burial will follow at the church’s cemetery on the grounds.
