Delbert Dean Fairbanks, 86, of Manhattan, died February 14, 2024 at his home in Manhattan.
He was born on March 8, 1937 in Wamego, Kansas, the son of Lon and Irene (Lyon) Fairbanks. He graduated from Manhattan High School with the class of 1955.
Delbert worked for many years as a brick and stone mason in the Manhattan area and throughout the Midwest. He wasn’t afraid of working hard and enjoyed the outcome of what he helped to build. One of his favorite hobbies was woodworking. He made many different types of furniture and toys for the grandkids, and many, many birdhouses over the years.
On July 15, 1982 in Pascagoula, Mississippi, he was united in marriage to his wife Carolee. She survives at their home in Manhattan.
Delbert is also survived by his children, Debra Wheeler, of Kansas City and Mark Fairbanks (Angela), of Topeka; also, his step-children, George Bannon and Michele Ridder (Rick); his five grandsons: Wesley Bannon, Cory Ridder, Michael Ridder, Tyler Wheeler, and Blaine Ridder and five great-grandchildren; his sister Rita Littleton, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services for Mr. Fairbanks will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday February 23, 2024 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Devin Wendt officiating. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. The family will greet friends prior to the services.
