I-70 fatality victim is identified

UPDATE:

The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the victim which occurred along Interstate 70 in Geary County early Thursday morning. A pedestrian, Bennett Trotter, 18, West Memphis, Arkansas, was walking on I-70 at the 302 mile marker and was struck by an unknown vehicle.

Trotter's body was discovered by motorists about 5:10 a.m. Thursday and authorities were notified. KPH is searching for the vehicle involved.

  The Kansas Highway Patrol was contacted by the Geary County Police Department in the early morning hours on Thursday, March 18th, after a body was found on eastbound I-70 near Fort Riley, slightly east of milepost 302. KHP Troopers responded to the scene and became the investigating agency.

It is believed on March 18th, a male pedestrian was walking eastbound on I-70. Additional motorists traveling at approximately 5:15 a.m. on I-70 found the man who had been struck by a vehicle, or vehicles, shortly prior to their discovery. He was lying near the fog line on I-70 in Geary County and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Several attempts have been made to identify the unknown vehicle, or vehicles, involved with striking this man who was walking on I-70. The Kansas Highway Patrol is now seeking assistance from the public to help locate a vehicle, or vehicles, which left the scene of the crash early Thursday morning. The crash occurred on eastbound I-70 between milepost 301 and 303 near Fort Riley. 

If anyone receives any information on the vehicle, or reports of a vehicle or driver being involved in a hit and run in Geary county, please call Kansas Highway Patrol Dispatch at 785-827-4437.

Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that the body of a man was found early Thursday morning along I-70 in Geary County. Trooper Ben Gardner with the Kansas Highway Patrol confirmed that the Riley County Police Department was contacted at approximately 5:15 Thursday morning, "by a motorist along I-70 that had discovered a deceased male on the eastbound shoulder of I-70 near Fort Riley about mile marker 302. " That location is between the exits off of the interstate to Fort Riley and K-18 Highway.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is the lead agency in the investigation. As of 9:50 a.m. Thursday one eastbound lane of the interstate was shut down. KHP is trying to identify the deceased man or any vehicle or vehicles that may have been involved which left the scene.
