Monday the Riley County Board of Commissioners approved renaming a portion of road just west of Tuttle Creek Reservoir.

A portion of Tuttle Cove Road is actually a private road that joins Tuttle Cove Road. Numerous residences have been built on the road and the Next Gen 911 committee proposed a name change to better clarify address locations for emergency services.

The committee had proposed the name Tuttle Cove Lane. Planners later received a petition from property owners in favor of the name Hayovel Place.

While the Hayovel Place name has a consensus among residents, some indicated confusion regarding the new numbering for their homes.

Emergency services personnel responded that the numbering component is an attempt to maintain consistency with the GIS grid system. Riley County spends a considerable amount of time training employees to understand the county grid, and the numbering system allows emergency responders to know exactly which part of the county they are needed.
