Heat will be the main weather factor Friday and Saturday.
The National Weather Service has posted a Heat Advisory from noon Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday. Heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees are expected for portions of central, east central, north central and northeast Kansas including the Junction City - Manhattan area.
Hot temperatures can high humidity may cause heat illnesses such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke to occur.
As a precaution drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency so call 911.
The Heat Advisory is in effect for Republic-Washington-Marshall-Nemaha-Brown-Cloud-Clay-Riley-Pottawatomie-Jackson-Jefferson-Ottawa-Dickinson-Geary-Morris- Wabaunsee-Shawnee-Douglas-Lyon-Osage-Franklin-Coffey-Anderson Counties.
