During the ceremony in the lobby of the Law Enforcement Center the ninth accreditation award will be accepted virtually. There will also be invited guests in attendance. Butler said it provides an opportunity to show the importance of accreditation in law enforcement here. "There are only 11 agencies in Kansas that are accredited, about five to six percent of agencies nationwide are accredited."

Butler stated in today's world it's an important to have confidence that your local police department "is professional, accountable, transparent." Butler added they think it's important for the community to learn more about it and spread the word that there good police department that maintains high standards. He noted that the RCPD does not set those standards. "These are set by someone else who actually comes in and reviews it to make sure that we're doing what we agreed to do."

The ceremony on May 4 will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Law Enforcement Center.
