Viola Mae Welter, 93, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday (February 20, 2024) at Vintage Park in Wamego.
Born December 1, 1930 in Humboldt, Nebraska, Viola was the daughter of Wayne C. and Ethel L. (McFall) Lee.She married Lyman “Cloyde” Welter on May 1, 1948 in Holton, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2012.
Viola was a member of the Wamego United Methodist Church. She loved sewing, crocheting, knitting and working with ceramics. She shared many of her projects with others and will be especially remembered for making her special homemade ice cream in the old crank style ice cream maker on weekends and at her many family reunions and for the many afghans she made for her family. She enjoyed collecting Avon bottles and her costume jewelry. Viola loved to work in her garden and her most fond memories were the times they spent at the Welter Farm in Flush and spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Viola had been employed as a cook for the Wamego School District and as a babysitter. She later was a Nurses Aid for several years until her retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Elda Seener (Tom) of Washington, MO, Marcella Matson of Eldon, MO and Karen Arace of Eldon, MO; a son, Randy Lee Welter of Manhattan, KS; ten grandchildren; and many loving great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cloyde; two sons in law, Frank Matson and Nick Arace; and a brother, Carroll Lee and his wife Ineva.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon (February 22, 2024) at 1:00 at Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with Pastor Alex Rossow officiating. Burial will be in Wamego City Cemetery.
The family will meet with friends on Thursday afternoon from 12:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.
