WESTMORELAND, KAN. — Planning a wedding should be one of the most exciting times in a couple's life, but the expenses can quickly add up. Blue Barn Farm near Westmoreland is looking to change that by helping couples create the wedding of their dreams without the overwhelming price tag.
Owned and operated by MJ and Mitch Hanner, Blue Barn Farm is introducing its $10,000 Essential Wedding Package, designed to bring together many of the most important elements of a wedding at an affordable price.
Located at 9955 Huff Road, approximately 20 minutes north of Manhattan and 45 minutes from Junction City, Blue Barn Farm offers couples a beautiful venue and an opportunity to make their special day memorable while keeping their budget in mind.
Hanner says the idea for the package came after looking at the rising cost of weddings across the country and right here in Kansas.
"Oh my goodness, we can certainly do this much more reasonably," Hanner said.
The $10,000 Essential Wedding Package accommodates up to 200 guests and includes the venue, wedding coordination, photography, catering, wedding cake, DJ services, a bridal bouquet and an officiant.
Hanner says the goal was to bring together dedicated vendors who share a common interest in helping couples save money.
"The vendors that we've curated are all individuals who have stepped up and offered to be a part of this package in an effort to save our couples some money," Hanner said.
For couples with larger guest lists, additional guests can be accommodated, with catering available at an additional $10 per plate.
The package also offers flexibility. Couples are welcome to bring in their own vendors if they have specific people they'd prefer to work with.
"The nice thing is, it gives my couples the ability to build their day around their budget," Hanner said.
A BEAUTIFUL SETTING FOR YOUR SPECIAL DAY

Beyond the affordable package, Blue Barn Farm offers a unique setting for weddings and special events.
The approximately five-acre property features a signature blue barn with an intimate atmosphere, climate control, a bar, two bathrooms, handicap accessibility and plenty of parking.
Outside, couples can enjoy a spring-fed natural pond that serves as a picturesque ceremony location. The property also offers beautiful outdoor spaces where guests can take in the Flint Hills scenery and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

For Hanner, one of the best parts of the venue is what happens when the sun begins to set.
"We in the Midwest have forgotten to get back outside in the evenings. It's beautiful. The Flint Hills skies. We have the festival lights lit. It's quiet. We're off the highway. It's a really beautiful spot," Hanner said.
Blue Barn Farm also offers a unique wedding décor closet, filled with donated decorations from previous couples. From candles and tea lights to silk flowers and other decorative touches, future brides and grooms can take advantage of items that have been generously passed along by other couples.
And when it comes to celebrating, Hanner encourages couples to make the day their own. Whether it's outdoor activities, sparklers or even a fireworks display to close out the evening, the venue offers opportunities to create a celebration that reflects each couple's personality.

As Hanner puts it, "It is your day, so make it fun, make it memorable."
