Authorities update morning fire

At 2:45 p.m. on Monday afternoon November 15, the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 2924 Hickory Court for a report of a mower on fire spreading to the house. Upon arrival, crews found a riding mower on fire under a deck that had spread to the exterior of the home. The fire was contained within 10 minutes and smoke was ventilated from the home. A total of 17 firefighters responded on 6 fire apparatus with the last units clearing at around 3:40 p.m. No injuries were reported. 
 
The building is a single-story single-family home. Loss is estimated at $4000 to the structure and $1200 to the riding mower. The owner is listed as the C Lewis Cocke Trust and the Enid Obee Cocke Trust of the same address. The fire cause is accidental due to the mower catching fire from dry leaves. 
 
While on scene at the previous incident at 3:21 p.m., crews were dispatched to 720 Frey Drive for a reported structure fire.  Upon arrival, crews found a fire on the back of the attached garage that had been partially extinguished by a Riley County Police Officer.  Crews finished extinguishment within 5 minutes and the home was ventilated.  A total of 16 firefighters responded on 6 fire apparatus with the last units clearing at around 4:00 p.m.  No injuries were reported. 
 
The building is a single-story single-family home.  Loss is estimated at $1000 to the structure and $50 to contents.  The owner is listed as the Ronald and Verna Robinson Trust of Manhattan.  The fire cause is accidental due to improperly disposed of smoking materials.
