GEARY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating the death of a dog and asking the public for help to locate the owner.
On January 11, 2021, deputies located a black footlocker off the roadway in South Outlet Park near Milford Lake, according to a media release from the Geary County Sheriff's department.
The footlocker contained a deceased canine. The dog appeared to be a female, black Pitbull mix, between 1 1/2 to 5 years of age. The dog had a white spot on her chest. A necropsy was completed by Kansas State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The cause of death determined to be: severe whip worms (ability to cause severe dehydration and poor body condition when left untreated), mild pneumonia and severe emaciation. Deputies are attempting to identify the owner of this dog.
