Evergy release

A strong storm moved across Evergy’s service area this morning, starting in Manhattan about 6 a.m. and moving east along I-70, entering Missouri about 8 a.m. The storm brought heavy rains and strong winds. The National Weather Service is reporting winds as high as 70 miles per hour. The storm impacted about 29,000 customers in total, with 21,000 outages at its peak. As of noon, Evergy had restored more than half the outages with about 9,000 customers still without power.

The most heavily affected areas wereTopeka, which had 1,600 customers without power, Lawrence, Johnson County, KS and Brunswick, MO, where there is tree damage and broken poles. In Brunswick, high winds caused significant damage, knocking down several poles on a main distribution line.

All available Evergy crews, as well as contractors, are working to restore power across our service area.
