Community and camaraderie were on full display Tuesday evening as the Riley County Police Department invited the community to celebrate National Night Out.
More than five hundred people streamed through City Park in Manhattan to chat with first responders, check out their equipment and technology, and enjoy some free food and Starbucks.
The RCPD displayed their full regalia from K9 units and bike officers, to hostage negotiators, tactical responders, and bomb squad robots. RCPD was joined at the event by representatives of the K-State Police Department, Manhattan and Riley County Fire Departments, Riley County EMS, Riley County Emergency Management.
National Night Out takes place annually on the first Tuesday of August. The campaign began in 1984, established to build a sense of community and promote police-community partnerships, and is now celebrated by some 38 million people in 16,000 communities.
