Lawrence W. Johnston, 81, of Apollo, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 6th, at Forbes Hospital, Monroeville.

Larry was born in Omaha, NE on May 27, 1942, a son of the late Hazel F. (Hicks) Johnston and William H. Johnston. He was a 1960 graduate of Junction City High School. He attended Kansas State University for 3 years studying electrical engineering.

Larry worked 23 years as a 2-way radio repairman for Topeka FM Communications. He then worked 20 years for the NCC in the state of Michigan as a public safety technician. He was a member of Delta Presbyterian Church in Lansing, MI. He was active in his church, where he was a volunteer as the clerk of Session and sang in the choir. He was a reserve police lieutenant for Junction City, KS, a member of the Blue #17 and Royal Arch masons. He was a national member of the Shriners, a member of the York Rite in Salina KS, and a past master of the mason lodge in Chapman, KS.

Larry enjoyed teaching gun safety, duck hunting, singing, and collecting coins. Larry is survived by his wife of 52 1/2 years, Janet Rae (Miles) Johnston, his children Amy (Frank) Hill, of Eaton Rapids, MI; Kevin S. Johnston, of Apollo; and Tammy (Dave) Huston, of Freeport. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Kenneth Hill, John Hill, Alyssa (David McKay) Huston, Katheryn (Glenn Spath) Huston and Rebecca Huston; 3 great grandchildren, Paxton McKay, Nova Hill, Adalyn McKay and one on the way, and his sister, Frances E. Johnston, of Lansing, MI, and his adopted daughter Kay Johnston Yette and two adopted grandchildren Chris Johnston and Cheyanne Yette of Silver Lake Kansas.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, September 9th from 5-7 p.m. in the Redmond Funeral Home Inc. 524 High St. Freeport. A memorial service will be held at Delta Presbyterian Church 6100 West Michigan Ave. Lansing, Michigan 48917 on September 16th at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association 1100 Liberty Avenue, Suite E-201 Pittsburgh, PA 15222 or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children 2900 Rocky Point Drive Tampa FL 33607.
