USD 383 Teachers Nominated for 2023 Teacher of the Year

Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 is pleased to announce Lindsey Umscheid and Emily Yeager have been named nominees for the 2023 Kansas Teacher of the Year.

Lindsey Umscheid is a 1st grade teacher at Frank V. Bergman Elementary School. She earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from Kansas State University in 2005. She has been with the district for 9 years. 

“The classroom has become the most peaceful and comfortable place for me,” said Umscheid in her application. “I love the students, I love the structure, I love the need for being well prepared.” 

Emily Yeager teaches 7th grade Language Arts at Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School. She earned her B.S in Secondary Education from Kansas State University in 2010 and her Masters in Educational Leadership from Kansas State University in 2020. She has been with the district for 6 years. 

“I believe that relationships form the foundation of every school, and that humor and storytelling, empathy and compassion are key components of strong and healthy relationships between and among students, educators, and school leaders,” said Yeager in her application.

Umscheid and Yeager will represent USD 383 in the 2023 Kansas Teacher of the Year program. The Kansas Teacher of the Year program, sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education, identifies, recognizes and utilizes representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state. Each school district may nominate one elementary classroom teacher and one secondary classroom teacher for Kansas Teacher of the Year. The nominee must be a full-time classroom teacher in any state-approved or accredited school, prekindergarten through grade twelve, who is planning to continue in an active teaching status.
