Larry Womochil of Detroit, Kansas passed away Sunday January 28, 2024 at Village Manor in Abilene.
Larry was born April 7, 1938 in Elmo, KS to Howard and Vera Womochil. Larry attended several area schools but graduated from Chapman High School after the Enterprise High School consolidated with Chapman.
Larry served in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1960 to 1966. He qualified as an Expert Carbine and had been a squad leader.
On April 29, 1962, Larry married Nancy Houlton from this union ,a son Mike, and daughter, Diane, were born. Larry and Nancy were later divorced.
On October 11, 1997, Larry married Carole Kirchner. Larry’s life was spent working mostly for Walker Stone or the companies that later bought the firm. Larry could do nearly every task at the quarries from setting up new plants to being a mechanic to a welder.
Larry is survived by his son Michael and his wife Kelly, His daughter Diane Ferris and her husband Steve and 17 grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carole, his sisters Twila Tyson and Trevia Schneider, his brothers Lyle, Gerald (Butch) Glenn and Tracy Womochil.
Funeral services for Larry will be held Friday February 2, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel 206 W. 5th Chapman, KS 67431. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery South of Enterprise following the service. Family visitation will be held Thursday evening February 1, 2024 at the Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapman beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The family suggests memorials be made to either Dickinson County Home Health and Hospice or the Tammy Walker Cancer Center and may be left at the funeral chapel or mailed to Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel, PO Box 411 Chapman, KS 67431
