Bernice Gay “Bernie” Waters, 60, of Alma, Kansas, died Sunday, May 15, 2022, at the Alma Manor. She was a long-time member of the community.
Bernice was born on January 25, 1962, in Mobile, Alabama, the daughter of Patrick H. and Shirley (Theel) Waters. She graduated from Wabaunsee High School in 1981.
Bernice worked for many years as a cook for the Alma Manor. She also worked a short time for the St. Marys Manor. Bernice was forced to retire in the 1990s due to her health.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Alma. Bernice enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a local card club. She loved to help organize birthday, graduation, or any other type pf party. She loved to tease her nephews and was known for her dry sense of humor. Bernice loved to be a part of lively conversation and often would change sides of a topic just to keep the argument going. Bernice was a avid K-State, Chiefs and Royals fan.
Bernice is survived by her sisters; Audrey Waters, Alma, and Cindy Louk (Dave Kaufholz), St. George, her nephews, Charles Thomas and Richard Louk, her grand-nephew, Dean Louk; her brothers-in-law, Ronald Thomas and Ross Louk; as well as many other relatives and friends.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2022, at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Alma. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Alma. They suggest memorial contributions to Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses and those may be sent to the funeral home.
