Paul Dean Brown, 84, of Abilene, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, at Abilene Memorial Hospital. Paul was born June 23, 1937, in Abilene, KS, the seventh of eight children born to Ray and Luella (Lyne) Brown. On July 28, 1967, he married Joyce Throne. They made their home in Abilene where they raised their two daughters.
Paul graduated from Abilene High School in 1955. During high school, he began working for Ronald Rice Motors in the autobody department. In 1963 Paul left Abilene to attend Miltonvale Wesleyan College where he studied theology and provided ministry for several small churches. Paul returned to Abilene in 1964 to work for Vacu-Blast. He and his family relocated to New Jersey in 1984 where he worked for Vacu-Blast International. The family returned to Abilene in 1985. Paul worked for CE/ABB Raymond, Midco Plastics, Custom Metal Fabricators, and Abrasive Blast until retiring. After retirement, Paul worked at Emmanuel Church for ten years.
Throughout life, Paul enjoyed camping and traveling with his family. He was an avid fisherman and participated in league bowling for several years. One of Paul’s greatest joys in retirement was spending time with his great-grandsons. A man of faith, his lifelong love of the Lord led Paul to minister in nursing homes and prisons.
Paul is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Denise Thompson (Donnie) of Benton, KY, Darla Thompson (Mike Legan) of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Dustin Thompson (Elizabeth) of Louisville, KY, Devin Thompson of Benton, KY, Heather Vanover (Kegan) of Hope, KS, and Lucas Thompson of Rock Springs, WY; three great-grandsons, Kyland Vanover, Koy Vanover, and Caleb Thompson; and many nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lawrence, Melvin, Vernon, and Gene; and three sisters, Margie Stoddart, Evelyn Whiteley, and Carol Albritton.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Friday, July 8 at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 9 at Emmanuel Church, Abilene. Burial will follow at the Abilene Cemetery.
