Three local college-bound students from Fort Riley received scholarships from the Corvias Foundation for military-connected students.

Would you please recognize Aubrey, Therese, and Irene? We’d love to see them celebrated in their home paper.

The scholarship awards were announced today in the press release below. I would also like to share quotes from Julie Allen (executive director of the Corvias Foundation) about the local winners here:

  1. Aubrey Swanson, a graduate of Junction City High School, will major in advertising at the University of Oklahoma. “Aubrey’s submission revealed her strong goal orientation and work ethic. She distinguished herself among many applicants with her ability to turn her own experiences into the practice of proactive empathy towards others,” said Allen.
  1. Graduating from Escriva Catholic Academy, Therese Librande is attending University of Mary to study nursing. Allen shared, “Therese is an inquisitive student whose application brought to life her willingness to pursue new, challenging avenues of inquiry or involvement. Her sense of balance and holding her values foremost as she charts her next steps set her application apart.”
  1. Irene Koo, a graduate of Junction City High School, will combine public health and pre-dental majors at the University of Pittsburgh. “Irene has chosen academic rigor and challenge throughout high school. In her application, she demonstrated remarkable maturity and deep empathy for others. Her deep thoughtfulness about the impact she has on others and how she will use her educational opportunity to impact the world around her were impressive,” added Allen.
