Larry Dale Mooney, Sr.

Larry Dale Mooney Sr., 65, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital in Kansas City, KS. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2021 at Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church with Reverend Nathan Dudley officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. A farewell service will follow the funeral at 1 p.m. at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with military honors.

Larry was born January 16, 1956, in Pine Bluff, AR, the son of Willie Frank and Thelma E. (Riggins) Mooney.

Larry served in the United States Army. He was a Armor and Training NCO. He was awarded the ARCOM Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Expert M16 Rifle Medal. He also served intermittently as a first sergeant at the end of his career. He later worked as a correctional officer at the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Junction City, KS. Larry became a martial artist as a young man. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church. His pastor and church family was very important to him. Larry enjoyed art, listening to music and fishing with his wife Rene. He taught his grandchildren his favorite song titled "All The Way". Larry enjoyed phone calls specifically with Shakyra, Samuel, Larry his mother, siblings and his wife's family (Wayne, Tracey and Sandy). He also enjoyed entertaining his close friends at home.

He married Rene Elizabeth Pannell April 16, 2011 in Junction City, KS.

Survivors include his wife Rene of the home in Junction City, KS; his mother, Thelma Mooney of Pine Bluff, AR; two sons, Larry Dale Mooney, Jr. of Pine Bluff, AR, Samuel Eugene Mooney, Sr. and his wife Vanessa of Junction City, KS who is currently serving in the United States Army in South Korea; one daughter, Shakyra Sims and her husband Lyntae of Keller, TX; three brothers, Willie Mooney and Wayne Mooney both of Pine Bluff, AR, John Mooney of Fayetteville, AR; two sisters, Vanessa Hall of Charlotte, NC, Diane Mooney of Pine Bluff, AR; three grandchildren, SaMya Vivian Mooney of Junction City, KS, Samuel Eugene Mooney, Jr. of Junction City, KS and Landen Denay Sims of Keller, TX; A host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Willie Frank Mooney; two sisters, Patricia Biggs and Debra Piggee and one brother, Kerry Mooney.
