Pawnee Mental Health news release
--
Pawnee Mental Health is inviting the community to experience the power of art and connection this May during More Good Days: A Community Art Show, a multi-city exhibit made possible through a $20,000 Arts Everywhere grant from the Kansas Arts Commission.
The funding supports Pawnee’s Building Partnerships Through Art and Therapy project, which brings creative programming to adults and youth living with mental illness across its 10-county service area.
In partnership with the Manhattan Nonviolence Initiative, the program offers hands-on experiences in painting, ceramics, music, theater, dance, creative writing and photography—giving participants meaningful ways to express themselves and build skills that support their mental health.
“Art opens the door for expression in ways that words sometimes cannot,” said Shelli Schottler, director of Community Services at Pawnee Mental Health. “Through this program, our clients are not only learning new skills—they’re building confidence, finding connection and sharing their stories in powerful ways.”
The More Good Days exhibit will showcase artwork created by Pawnee clients alongside contributions from local artists and community members, offering a unique and meaningful look at the role creativity plays in mental wellness.
Community members are invited to attend, connect and experience the artwork firsthand at the following locations:
Junction City Dorothy Bramlage Public Library (230 W 7th St, Junction City) May 7–May 26, 2026 | Reception: May 7 (4 –6:30 PM)
Concordia North Central Kansas Medical Center (155 W College Drive, Concordia) May 14-28, 2026 | Reception: May 14 (4:30-6 PM)
Manhattan Mid Town Plaza (116 S 4th St, Manhattan) May 21–June 4, 2026 | Reception: May 21 (5 – 8 PM) Additional artwork will be featured at downtown businesses throughout each community.
Through initiatives like this, Pawnee Mental Health continues to expand innovative, community-based approaches that support individuals living with Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) and Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED)—helping reduce barriers, strengthen independence and improve quality of life.
Join us this May to celebrate creativity, resilience and the importance of more good days.
