James Orin Rick

James Orin Rick (72) formerly of Niles, Kansas, went to heaven on October 22, 2022, in Manhattan, KS, after battling emphysema for more than 7 years.

He was born December 9, 1949, in Omaha, NE, to James and Marie Rick. After moving around the country, the family settled in Salina, KS, where he attended Roosevelt-Lincoln Jr. High and Salina High (class of '68), and Kansas Weslyan. He enlisted in the Marines during the Viet Nam War and served for four years. He was part owner of a bar until he was injured in an auto accident. He met and married Lori Dahl in 1979. Jim worked for several manufacturing plants in Salina before moving his family to Texas where he was a supervisor for a trailer hitch company in Alvarado. After several years in Texas, the family moved back to Kansas and settled in Niles.

Jim loved spending time with friends and family. Family camping and fishing trips, working in the yard, taking care of his roses, refinishing furniture, and playing Farkle and poker with friends were the things he most enjoyed.

Jim leaves behind Lori and four children, Paul (Martha) Jackson of Colorado and children Bryan and Victoria, Leslie (Kyle) Waring of Florida and children Logan, Hannah, Riley, Maggy, Willow, Stella and Hayden, Jesse Rick of Niles and children, Nalo, Carter, Emalyn and Jesse, Toni Sims of Solomon and children Zoe, Kaiser, and Trajan; and 6 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie Rick, and sisters Dawn (Doug) Robinson and Shelia Green. He is survived by two sisters, Coleen (Joe) Beck and Roxanne (Tony) Hornberger, three brothers, Shawn (Lita) Rick; Kevin (Trisha) Rick; and Kelly Rick, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen of Manhattan, Kansas. Funerals services will be held at the University United Methodist Church in Salina, KS, Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.  The internment ceremony will be at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Fort Riley Cemetery in Manhattan, KS, at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2022.
