Jimmie Keith Vilander, known affectionately as Jim, died on April 23, 2024, at the age of 85, at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas.
Jim was born on November 19, 1938, in Cleburne, Kansas, the son of Glennon and Eleanor (Vathauer) Vilander.
Jim married Lois Stewart on November 22, 1956, in Zeandale, Kansas, she survives of the home.
Jim had a dedication to craftsmanship and education. He built a career with his hands, constructing homes and pouring foundations that testify to his skill and attention to detail. In addition to his construction work, Jim's connection to the land was evident in his farming, where he nurtured both crops and community. His love for teaching allowed him to share his extensive knowledge with others, leaving a legacy of practical wisdom and lifelong learning.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Jim was a man of many interests. He was an avid woodworker, creating beautiful pieces that showcased his artistry and precision. Model railroads were another of Jim's joys, reflecting his love for intricate detail and nostalgia. Fishing gave him quiet moments of reflection and a deep appreciation for nature's gifts. Jim also owned and enjoyed flying classic and unique airplanes in his spare time.
Jim is survived by his wife, Lois Vilander, son; Richard (Ruth) Vilander, grandchildren; Harold (Kelsey Lutz) Vilander, and Jennifer (Jason) Hart, great-grandchildren; David Hart, James Hart, Harry Hart, Madelyn Hart, Evangeline Hart, and Marceline Vilander, and his sister; Joyce Plyter.
He was preceded in death by his, parents Glennon and Eleanor Vilander, and brother-in-law, Duane Plyter.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. until service time. A graveside service will be held in the Wabaunsee Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be payable to the Beacher Bible & Rifle Church and can be left in care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home PO Box 48, Wamego, Kansas.
