Sandra Lee Schadegg

Sandra Lee (Culver) Schadegg, lifetime Cimarron resident, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 5th, 2022.

Sandy was born September 12th, 1955, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Robert O. and Patricia A. (Thomas) Culver. She grew up in Cimarron, attending Cimarron High School, graduating in 1973. Following high school she attended and played basketball at Garden City Community College, graduating in 1975 with an associate’s degree in elementary education. That same year she married her high school sweetheart, Gary Lee Schadegg. They made Cimarron their home.

Sandy worked for Cimarron Insurance Company until 1978, following the birth of their first son, Mathew Robert. She had an in-home daycare for several years while growing their family. They had their second son, Michael Carl in 1979 and their third son Maxwell Lee in 1984. In 1988 she began working in the Cimarron schools, wearing many hats, as lunchroom monitor, library aide and coaching volleyball, basketball and track.

At the age of 35, Sandy went back to school for a Bachelor's Degree in elementary and secondary education through Newman University in Wichita. She began her teaching career in Montezuma, Kansas, at the grade school, teaching reading and P.E. and coaching volleyball and basketball. She left Montezuma after 4 years of teaching, moving to Cimarron High School as a history teacher and volleyball coach. Sandy taught at Cimarron High School for 9 years. While teaching she pursued her Master’s Degree in Administration through Fort Hays University.

After obtaining her Master’s Degree she became principal in Bucklin, Kansas, at the grade school. Three years later she went on to become the grade school principal in Holcomb, Kansas, before returning to Cimarron schools 2 years later. She became a 3rd grade teacher at Cimarron Elementary School for 9 years until her unexpected passing.

Sandy was a strong and influential educational professional, touching many lives along the way. She had a passion for helping children grow, do the right thing and become good people. She gained respect and loyalty from all around her. She was well loved by her students and has made huge impacts on so many people’s lives. Her motto was “Not everything is the same, but everything should be treated equal.”

She is survived by her husband, Gary Schadegg of Cimarron, her brother Robert (Lori) Culver of Smithfield, UT, her sons Mathew (Stacy) Schadegg of Wamego, KS, Michael (Erica) Schadegg of Blue Springs, MO, and Maxwell (Christiana) Schadegg of Wamego, KS, and her beloved grandchildren, Gracie and Madilyn Schadegg, Jaxon Schadegg, and Hazel and Cooper Schadegg.

Sandra Lee Schadegg was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13th, 2022,  at the Cimarron High School Gymnasium, with David Johnson of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial to follow at the Cimarron Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12th, 2022, at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Cimarron.

The family suggests memorials to the Schadegg Family to be designated at a later date in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel 1901 N. 14th Ave. Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
