B. Duane Nordgren, age 90, of Manhattan, died August 31, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan.
He was born May 6, 1933, in Olsburg, Kansas, the son of Axel B. and Florence H. (Sundstrom) Nordgren. The family lived in Manhattan, South Dakota, and then back to Manhattan where Duane graduated from Manhattan High School in 1951.
Duane served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Duane worked as a field engineer for NCR. Following his retirement, he worked for 10 years as the Director of Transportation for Pawnee Mental Health.
He was a member of the American Legion Post # 17. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, collecting coins, puzzling and watching the birds.
On December 23, 1959, at the Olsburg Lutheran Church, he was married to the former Norma W. Webster. Norma preceded him in death on January 29, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his sister Lorraine Hirsch.
Survivors include his two children: Brent Duane Nordgren and his wife Linda of Danville, CA, and Sherri Nordgren of Leawood, KS; and two grandsons: Bryce and Björn Nordgren.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, September 7th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Stephen Haverlah officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 6th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
