
POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY—Two Kansas men avoided injury after a small plane mishap just before 5p.m. Thursday in Pottawatomie County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1999 Cessna single engine fixed wing aircraft piloted by Mason Jay Patrick Camera, 22, Manhattan, was northbound on runway 36 at the Wamego Airport.
The pilot was attempting to perform a short field takeoff. Miscommunication between the student pilot and the instructor occurred causing the aircraft to continue northbound on the ground.
Brakes were applied in an attempt to stop however, the aircraft continued past the runway, entered the grass and came to rest in a corn field.
Camera and a passenger David Allen Thompson, 65, Clay Center, were not injured.
