Daniel Oren Woellhof, age 69 of Lakin, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
He was born on June 30, 1954, in Clay Center, the son of Oren Lynn and Arlene (Weller) Woellhof.
Dan grew up in Clay Center and attended Clay Center Community High School and later earned a Master's degree from Pittsburg State University. Dan began his teaching career in Chapman and then Leon before moving to Lakin and taught automotive tech, small engines, and welding, retiring after 43 years. During his time teaching and even during retirement, Dan drove an activity bus for Lakin and Deerfield, helping to support sports and activities.
Dan was a longtime member of the Lakin Wesleyan Church, later renamed New Life Church. He was a friend to many and held many positions throughout the community, school, and church. In his retirement, Dan also enjoyed visiting and reconnecting with people at the Kearny County Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Woellhof of Lakin; three sons, Danny Woellhof and wife Pam of Garden City, Matthew Woellhof of Clay Center and Ernie Cruz and wife Shanna of Texas; four daughters, Lovena Woellhof of Lakin, Jessica Woellhof of Lakin, Jerica Woellhof of Dodge City, and Enedina Woellhof of California; 21 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.
A memorial service will be held at New Life Church in Lakin on March 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. A service and burial will be planned at a later date in Clay Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
