
Juneteenth will be observed Friday and Saturday in Manhattan.
Friday evening activities will include a grilling cookoff and free concert by Heatwave at 7:30 p.m. in City Park. On Saturday there will be a communitywalk beginning at 10:30 a.m. from Longs Park to Douglas Park, a vendor fair and activities in Douglas Center Park. Other activities will include a speaker, Curtis Pitts, a Kids Experience Play, vendors and food trucks.
Juneteenth is a celebration of African American freedom dating back to the time in the 1860s when slaves in Texas learned about the Emancipation Provlamation.
