Beverly Joan Pelfrey, 82, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away on February 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
A family led Memorial service will take place at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd, Manhattan, KS 66503, Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.
Beverly was born on July 26, 1941, to Wilbur and Rosetta (Starr) Neal in Topeka, Kansas. She lived the majority of her life in Junction City and started working at the United Telephone Company in the late '50s and stayed until the mid '60s. After working at the United Telephone Company, she started working at the police department as their administrator and continued until her retirement.
Being a military spouse, she had to move her family to Ft. Benning, Georgia for a short period of time until they decided to come back home to Junction City, Kansas and remained until her move to Manhattan in 2017, to be closer to her son. Beverly could make any outfit or costume and did for many Halloweens, birthdays, and Christmas'. Her children will always remember their homemade dolls, stylish clothing, costumes, and mom's famous haircuts, as well as her yearly police department Christmas parties as Mrs. Claus. She was also a very talented cook and baker. She would make her family homemade dinners every night until she passed her gift down to her daughter, making it her responsibility.
Beverly is survived by her loving children, Darin (Roxie) Pelfrey of Manhattan, Kansas and daughter, Brenda (Robert) Glessner of Texas; two brothers, Thomas (Norma) Neal and Patrick Neal of Junction City; two grandchildren, Morgan Marx of Texas and Matthew Glessner of Florida and one Great-grandson, Dylan Marx. She was preceded by her loving husband, James A. Pelfrey; mother, Rosetta Irena Neal; father, Wilbur M. Neal; one brother, Jerome Neal; one sister, Janet Estes and one granddaughter, Emily Glessner.
