John Richards Mundy

John R. Mundy, 75, passed away March 12, 2023. John was born November 23, 1947, in Long Beach, California and lived in California until his business career took him to Las Vegas, Nevada. When ill health caused a career change, John attended the University of Las Vegas where he earned his PhD and became a professor. John moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 2006 when he accepted a position teaching at the University of North Florida and St. Johns River State College. He enjoyed working with his great colleagues and teaching his students at both institutions. 

John is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Linda: daughters Gina (Steve) Snyder, Jennifer (Adam) Silva, and son Eric (Kara) Mischler. John was a beloved Campo to his grandchildren Kassidy Scroggs, Miles Silva, Madeline Silva Dunleavy, Max Silva, Ava Mischler, Lauren Mischler, Mallory Mischler, and is also survived by his brothers James and Jeffery Mundy. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter John Mundy and Ruth Atkins Mundy.

Those who knew John witnessed his constant example of grit, determination and resilience through his struggle with Type I diabetes.  John was eternally grateful to the anonymous family of his deceased donor for his first kidney and pancreas transplant which enhanced his quality of life immeasurably. John was also grateful to the transplant department at Mayo clinic that performed his second kidney transplant. 

A gathering of friends, family and colleagues will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home at 3600 Third Street South, Jacksonville Beach, Florida 32250.
