
RILEY COUNTY - On Sunday, May 14th, at 2:00 am, Riley County Fire District #1 crews were called out to a potential fire at 3503 Rocky Ford Circle.
The home's smoke detector activated the residential fire alarm which alerted emergency crews.
When crews arrived, they found smoke inside the residence and located a small attic fire.
Fire trucks and crews from Station 112 - Tuttle Creek and Station 115 - Konza Valley responded to the fire, which was quickly contained.
Crews remained on scene until 4:00 am to ensure the fire was extinguished and didn't spread to other areas of the house.
A faulty bathroom ventilation fan, which overheated was determined to be the cause of the fire.
The fire spread to the attic and damaged a portion of the bathroom. Damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $12,500.
According to Riley County public records, the owner of the property is listed as Darcie Hartwick.
Prior to the arrival of fire department personnel, the residents had returned home, but were not home at the time the fire started.
No injuries to people or pets were reported.
