RILEY, KS - UPDATE: Just before 1:15 pm on Wednesday, November 16th, crews from Riley City Fire Department and the Riley County Fire District #1 were called out to a reported structure fire in the 600 block of West Walnut Street at the intersection with Main Street.
Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the attic of the home, and the residents had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of emergency crews.
Fire crews spent just over an hour making sure the fire was extinguished, and that there were not hot spots.
Riley County EMS responded in case of injuries and Riley County Police officers provided traffic control around the scene.
There were no injuries reported with this fire.
The cause of fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction. Damage caused by the fire is estimated at $30,000.
Members of the Riley City Fire Department will be checking for hotspots in the attic throughout the evening and overnight hours Wednesday.
Main Street has since reopened.
