Norman Delbert Honig, 95, of Onaga, Kansas, died Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at the Onaga Health and Rehab. He was a life-long resident of the area.
Norman was born on January 24, 1927, in rural Onaga, Kansas, the son of Otto and Adele Figge Honig. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke Lutheran South church. He attended St. Luke Lutheran parochial school through the eighth grade and then attended Onaga High School. Norman served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Norman worked most of his adult life as a stockman and farmer on the family farm southwest of Onaga. He was a true steward of the land and very proud of his operation and was recognized by receiving a county conservation award. Norman also worked for several years for the Onaga Lumber and Grain. Norman was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and served on the St. Luke Lutheran South Cemetery Board.
Norman married Ann B. Applegate on February 14, 1951. They were later divorced.
Norman is survived by his sons; Eugene Honig and Kenneth Honig (Suzy), both of Onaga; his sisters, Lavina Kolterman and Marcella Fairbanks, both of Onaga, and his brother, Lyle Honig, of Wamego; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm, Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton Kansas. Reverend Terry DeGiovanni will be officiating. Burial will follow at St. Luke Lutheran South Cemetery. The family will greet friends, at the church, on Monday, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. They suggest memorial contributions to St. Luke Lutheran Church, and those may be made in care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.
