MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - The Riley County Law Board met in a special session on Thursday afternoon to discuss the proposed budget for 2022 for the Riley County Police Department.
In 2020, the Riley County Police Department was advised to submit a flat budget for 2021, which included no pay increases for staff, unlike previous years.
For the 2022 budget, the Riley County Police Department asking the Law Board to consider a ‘cost of living’ wage increase -- for current staff *and* new hires.
“You’re looking at a 3.57% increase of the 2021 budget, and as has been mentioned several times before, you can pass a budget for publication and lower it at your next meeting, but you cannot increase it.” Riley County Police Department, Capt. Joshua Kyle says.
The official approval of the 2022 Budget will be at the regular Law Board meeting on June 21, 2021.
