Edward Junior “Doc” Johnson, age 90 of Manhattan, went to spend eternity with Jesus on Sunday, July 17, 2022.
He was born on April 23, 1932, the son of Carl Edward and Clara Louise (Rahe) Johnson, east of Leonardville in the farmhouse where he spent his life until moving to Manhattan in 2016.
On August 23, 1964 at the Leonardville EUB Church, he married Jean Marie Anderson. She survives of the home.
Doc loved his family and friends. He had many stories to tell from his years at Lee Country School within a mile of their home as well as the Leonardville High School class of 1950. He was a lifetime farmer and a rural mail carrier for 40 years until his retirement in 2000. He was on the board of the Leonardville Nursing Home, where he served as Chairman for several years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Nancy Sipes and husband Kelly of Holton; one son, David Johnson and wife Peggy of Salina; four grandchildren, Joshua Sipes, Hannah Sipes, Abigail Johnson and Mackinley Johnson; two nephews, Grant MacDonald and Bruce MacDonald and their families who had a very special place in Uncle Edward’s heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Rolland Rahe and two sisters, Sophia Peterson and Lela MacDonald.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the Clay Center United Methodist Church with Rev. Reuben Langat officiating. A private family burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Clay Center United Methodist Church and Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
