The City of Manhattan has opened a community-wide survey to better understand housing experiences, conditions, and issues. This is the next phase within the City's Housing Market Analysis project, following the establishment of a housing steering committee in August 2021, multiple rounds of stakeholder interviews, and preliminary data collection on the local housing market.
The 10-minute survey can be found on the project website and and will be available through February 28, 2022: www.engagemhk.org/housing-market-analysis. The survey will ask respondents a series of questions about housing experiences, preferences, needs, and basic demographics. All responses will be anonymous.
“We would like to hear from every Manhattanite – homeowners, renters, those looking for housing, those experiencing housing issues, and even prospective Manhattan residents, if possible,” says Chad Bunger, Assistant Director of the Community Development Department. “It is important that the lived experience surrounding housing informs the strategy generated from the Housing Market Analysis that will proceed through the Steering Committee and onto the City Commission this coming summer.”
The online survey is available in multiple languages through Google Translate on the project website. Paper copies of the survey will be available at City Hall for anyone who does not have access to complete the survey online. Additionally, a hard copies will be provided to local organizations and civic groups seeking to distribute to their larger audiences. If you would like access to a paper copy of the survey, contact the Community Development department at 785-587-2412.
In addition to the Housing Needs and Conditions Survey, there will be other opportunities to for the public to give their perspective on housing in Manhattan, including interactive tools on the project website throughout the project and in-person listening and strategy work sessions this spring.
The Housing Market Analysis is an initiative of the City’s first-ever strategic plan, CrossroadsMHK.
