Dan Laverne Ward of Clay Center, KS died on Monday, March 20, 2023, in Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands, TX. He was 93 years old.
He was born to Lester and Crystal Ward on July 26, 1929. He was raised and attended public schools in Clay Center, along with his brother Don and sisters Lynette and Carol. He graduated from the University of Kansas and served in the US Air Force as a pilot.
He married Jerrie Moore and had two children, Keith and Cathy Ward. He divorced and re-married Sylvia (Wooster) Burkart. He adopted her four children, Rosalind (Ward) Palumbo, Ronnie, Rena (Ward) Thames and Randy. Together, they also had two children of their own, Dan, Jr and Tamara (Ward) Dermody. He divorced Sylva and remarried Elizabeth (Englund) Ward.
They lived in San Antonio and Clay Center, but eventually found their way to Blanco, Tx where they lived for 40 years. He worked in retail selling carpeting, draperies and furniture. He also owned his own lumber yard in Clay Center and later a carpet and drapery store in Johnson City, TX. His sense of humor and pranking style was enjoyed (or tolerated) by all that knew him. He will be greatly missed.
He has 14 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, April 7, 2023, in Greenwood Cemetery.
