SFC (RET) Fay Louis Cherry, 81, of Junction City, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758516 Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
Fay was born January 16, 1941 in Castalian Springs, TN, the son of Euey B. and Bulah A. (Billingsly) Cherry.
SFC (RET) Cherry served in the United States Army having retired in 1987. After his retirement, he worked at Fort Riley as a dining facility supervisor. He enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He was known for having a beautiful yard and flowers.
He married Ollie E. Petty May 17, 1963 in Gallatin, TN.
Survivors include his wife Ollie of the home; three sons, Charles Cherry and his wife Jacqueline of Wakefield, KS, Casey Cherry and his wife Jennifer of Iola, TX and Philip Cherry of Junction City, KS; four daughters, Sandra Prosch of Junction City, KS, Rebecca McKey and her husband Aaron of Shawnee, OK, Rachel Cherry and her wife Victoria of Atlanta, GA and Hailey Cherry of Junction City, KS; fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy Cherry; two sisters, Polly Norman and Bulah Beatty.
