Update as of 6:30p.m. Blue River Hills Rd is now open. All traffic can resume as normal.

Riley County Fire District #1 was actively battling a wildfire in the northern part of Riley County Friday. As of 6:30 PM more than 800 acres had burned.
The fire in the 8000 block of Blue River Hills Road was called in just before 2:00 PM Friday. In addition to local personnel and equipment, two 600-gallon Kansas Forest Service contracted tankers were being brought in to assist due to inaccessible terrain. Fire units from Waterville and Fort Riley also assisted.
Riley County officials said Friday evening that some structures were currently threatened but none had been damaged. Riley County Police Department reported that one home had been evacuated.
Blue River Hills Road was shut down. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
