Esther I. (Graves) Umscheid, age 77, of Manhattan, died March 19, 2024, at her residence.
She was born December 20, 1946, in Westmoreland, Kansas, the daughter of Ross W. and Lena M. (Davis) Graves.
Esther graduated from Manhattan High School.
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was the bookkeeper for her husband Clay, provided daycare for many years and was a wonderful cake baker and decorator.
Esther was a devoted member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries.
On March 15, 1963, she was married to Clayton J. Umscheid. Clay survives of the home. Additional survivors include her three children: Kenneth Umscheid, Rebecca Frakes (Kevin), and Timothy Umscheid (Jeanna); two foster children: Kelly Hearn (Susan), and Karin Stoner (Paul); seven grandchildren, four foster grandchildren; one great granddaughter and two foster great grandchildren.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27th, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church with Father Kerry Ninemire as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Valley View Memorial Park Cemetery east of Manhattan.
Memorial contributions may be made to either Seven Dolors Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meoan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.
