Evergy announced that Wednesday's massive wind storm created the company’s the highest-ever power outage event.

As of 5 a.m. this morning, more than 1000 customers are still without power, according to Evergy.

This announcement came at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after unrelenting winds surged out of southwest Kansas, across the state and into Missouri.

Gusts over 100 mph took down many power lines and tree limbs, causing over 200,000 people in the area to lose power.

Evergy said the unique thing about this storm was its sheer breadth – spreading out from Nebraska to Oklahoma and across the company’s entire service territory.
