RCPD: Manhattan house fire was intentionally set

RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged arson fire.

Just after 2:30p.m. Tuesday, officers filed a report for arson in the 800 block of Pottawatomie Avenue in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report. 

 A 75-year-old woman reported a 28-year-old woman started a fire inside the victim's home.

When fire crews arrived, they found a small fire in the front room of the house, with smoke throughout the residence. Firefighters had the fire contained within 10 minutes, according to a media release from the Manhattan Fire Department. 

The one-story single-family home was estimated to have sustained $10,000 in damages. There were no injuries.

On Tuesday, January 17th, Manhattan Fire Department was called out to the 800 block of Pottawatomie Avenue on the report of a structure fire.

When crews arrived, they found a small fire in the front room of the house, with smoke throughout the residence.

Firefighters had the fire contained within 10 minutes of their arrival on scene.

Seventeen firefighters responded on 6 fire apparatus.

One dog escaped the fire when firefighters opened the back door. No injuries were reported.

The one-story single-family home was estimated to have sustained $10,000 in damages. 

The owner is listed as Charles and Glenda Fletcher of the same address. The fire cause is under investigation at this time.
