Riley County police have reported that multiple citizens have reported that someone contacted them claiming to be Patrol Officer Davenport of the Riley County Police Department. During the call, Officer Davenport advised they knew personal information about the individual. The caller then requested money for payment of a warrant stemming from PPP loans taken out during the pandemic.
The Riley County Police Department does not employ a Patrol Officer Davenport. PLEASE be CAUTIOUS about releasing personal information or providing payment via a QR code or bitcoin to someone over the phone that you have not met or do not know! RCPD will never request payment over the phone!
If you receive a call similar to this, please contact RCPD at (785) 537-2112 to verify it was an RCPD officer or employee that called you. Never make a payment over the phone to someone or some entity that you do not know.
