MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Adrian Martinez is heading from Nebraska to Kansas State. The four-year starting quarterback for the Cornhuskers announced on Twitter he would transfer to K-State. He is immediately eligible to play for the Wildcats. Martinez was a three-time captain at Nebraska but went just 14-25 as the starter. He completed 62% of his passes for more than 2,800 yards with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this past season. Martinez could play two more college seasons because the NCAA granted players an extra year of eligibility during last year’s shortened COVID-19 season.

Thus far, K-State’s Class of 2022 is comprised of seven players on defense and six on offense. There are four defensive backs, three offensive linemen, two apiece of linebacker and tight ends, and there is one defensive end and one wide receiver.

The state of Texas leads in terms of most from one state with three from the Lone Star State, while there are two apiece from Kansas, Georgia, Nebraska and Oklahoma. MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;Following an impressive regular season that saw him total over 1,000 rushing yards and 400 receiving yards, Kansas State sophomore running back&nbsp;Deuce Vaughn&nbsp;has been named one of five finalists for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, SPORTyler announced Tuesday.

Vaughn is the Wildcats’ first finalist for a national award for his work on the field since Tyler Lockett won the Johnny “Jet” Rodgers National College Football Return Specialist award following the 2014 season.

A product of Round Rock, Texas, Vaughn is joined on the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award finalist list by UTSA running back Sincere McCormick, Baylor running back Abram Smith, Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson and Western Kentucky quarterback Bailey Zappe.

The NFL is requiring players, coaches and other team personnel to receive a COVID-19 booster by Dec. 27.

In a memo sent to teams on Monday and obtained by The Associated Press, the league said: “Given the increased prevalence of the virus in our communities, our experts have recommended that we implement the CDC’s recommendation.”

The league’s requirement extends to all Tier 1 and Tier 2 individuals who have previously received the vaccine. The CDC recommends an individual who received a second Pfizer or Moderna shot to complete the primary vaccine series more than six months earlier should receive a booster shot. An individual that received the Johnson and Johnson shot more than two months earlier should receive a booster shot.

The following do not have to meet the requirement:

—An individual who is not eligible for a booster pursuant to the CDC definition.

—An individual who is in the 90-day test holiday after a confirmed positive COVID-19 test

—An individual who received monoclonal antibodies within the immediately preceding 90

—An individual whose “S” antibody level on an antibody test administered via BRL (BioReference Lab) at the club facility is 2500 or greater.

The league says any individual who is not currently subject to the requirement for boosters will be required to obtain the booster within 14 days of becoming eligible.

Teams were asked to provide booster shots to all eligible tiered staff as soon as possible, and to consider making booster shots available for player and staff families and cohabitants.

A season-high total of 36 players were placed on the COVID-19/reserve list Monday.

In addition to the two first-teamers, sophomore&nbsp;Deuce Vaughn, junior&nbsp;Malik Knowles&nbsp;(all-purpose) and senior&nbsp;Russ Yeast&nbsp;were on the second team. It was the second-straight season that Vaughn landed on the AP’s second team, while the other four players were honored for the first time in their careers.

Anudike-Uzomah enters the bowl season ranked first in the nation in forced fumbles (6), while he is ninth in the nation and second in the Big 12 in sacks (11.0) and second in the Big 12 in tackles for loss (14.5). Also a First Team All-Big 12 selection by the league’s coaches, Anudike-Uzomah tied a school record with 4.0 sacks against TCU. He is a half sack shy of tying the school record for sacks, and he enters the TaxAct Texas Bowl tied for the school record in forced fumbles.

Beebe, a native of Kansas City, Kansas, is the only underclassmen on the AP’s first or second team as an offensive lineman as the other nine spots are comprised of seven seniors and two juniors. Five Wildcats Recognized by Associated Press

In a game marked by alternating runs, it was Golden Eagles’ 11-2 spurt over a near 3-minute span midway through the second half that gave them the cushion to hold off a late rally by the Wildcats.

Down 61-54 with 5:42 to play after freshman&nbsp;Kam Jones&nbsp;connected on Marquette’s 10th 3-point field goal of the game, K-State twice closed to within one point in the last minute of play, lastly on a 3-pointer from the corner by senior&nbsp;Mike McGuirl&nbsp;with 19 seconds left to make it 64-63.

The Wildcats (5-3) had to foul on 3 straight possessions to put Golden Eagles (8-2) at the free throw line for the 1-and-1 opportunity with 14 seconds, as Jones missed the front end of the free throw to give K-State one last chance to win. With no timeouts left to set up a play, Massoud drove to the basket and attempted to lay the ball off the rim from under the standard but was blocked by Ighodaro with 4 seconds remaining and redshirt freshman&nbsp;Tyler Kolek&nbsp;grabbed the rebound to secure the win.

The loss snapped K-State’s 3-game winning streak and ended its 7-game winning streak against non-conference opponents at Bramlage Coliseum. The team has now lost both home games to Marquette in the BIG EAST/Big 12 Battle with last season’s scheduled contest at Butler cancelled due to COVID-19.

(AP) — Ochai Agbaji scored 23 points, Christian Braun added 20 and eighth-ranked Kansas tuned up for this weekend’s return of the Border War with a 78-52 blowout of UTEP on Tuesday night. David McCormack and Mitch Lightfoot added eight points apiece for the Jayhawks (7-1), who led by 21 at halftime and weren't threatened the rest of the way. Souley Boom had 18 points and Keonte Kennedy 11 for UTEP (4-4). Now, the Jayhawks turn their attention to Saturday’s showdown with Missouri. David McCormack and Mitch Lightfoot added eight points apiece for the Jayhawks (7-1), who led by 21 at halftime and weren't threatened the rest of the way. Souley Boom had 18 points and Keonte Kennedy 11 for UTEP (4-4). Now, the Jayhawks turn their attention to Saturday’s showdown with Missouri. The bitter rivals haven't played a regular-season game since the Tigers bolted for the SEC nearly a decade ago.

Javonte Williams started in place of the injured Melvin Gordon III and had 102 yards rushing along with a late touchdown catch for the Broncos. They have lost 12 straight to Kansas City.
