Kansas senior center Taiyanna Jackson has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2023 Naismith Women’s Defensive Player of the Year award. The semifinalists for the award were announced on Monday by the Naismith Awards.

The award, which has been presented since 2018, goes to the most outstanding women’s defensive basketball player who achieves tremendous on-court success. Jackson was one of 15 players named to the Naismith Watch List on Jan. 24. She is joined on the semifinalist list by Brea Beal (South Carolina), Aliyah Boston (South Carolina), Cameron Brink (Stanford), Brooke Flowers (St. Louis), Elizabeth Kitley (Virginia Tech), Rayah Marshall (USC), Aneesah Morrow (DePaul), Angel Reese (LSU) and Celeste Taylor (Duke). The four finalists for the award will be announced on March 13.

Jackson is among the most-improved players in college basketball and she’s excelling at both ends of the floor this season. She leads the Big 12 and ranks sixth in the country with 82 blocked shots, an average of 3.0 per game, while ranking third in the nation in field goal percentage (68.1) and fifth in rebounds per game (12.6). Jackson recorded her league-leading 18th double-double on Sunday, with 12 points and a career-high-tying 21 rebounds in KU’s 66-57 victory over Oklahoma State. She also had five blocked shots against OSU, her fourth-straight game with four or more blocks.

Jackson is one of five players from a power five conference averaging a double-double this season, with current marks of 15.4 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. She is on pace to become the first Jayhawk to average a double-double for an entire season since Traci Claxton in 1982. Her 18 double-doubles ranks sixth in Division I women’s basketball and tied for seventh in school history for a single season. After setting a school record with 95 blocked shots last season, Jackson is again climbing the single-season list with 82 blocks this season, which ranks fifth in KU history.

Entering 2022-23, Jackson was Preseason All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and she is a two-time Big 12 Player of the Week this season. Last year, she became the first-ever KU player selected to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team and led the way as the Jayhawks set a new single-season school record with 5.7 blocks per game. Earlier this season, Jackson was also listed as one of the Top 10 candidates for the 2023 Lisa Leslie Award, which recognizes the top center in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball.

Kansas returns to action on Wednesday against nationally-ranked Iowa State for Senior Night at Allen Fieldhouse. That game will tip off at 7 p.m. CT on Big 12 NOW.

The Wabaunsee boy's basketball team will kick off their postseason run on Monday evening when they host the 7-seed in Oskaloosa.

The Chargers (14-6) come into this contest on a hot streak having won 12 of their last 14 while the Bears (5-15) are ice cold having lost all but one of their last 15.

While Wabaunsee will be considered heavy favorites in this game, the Chargers remain committed to continuing playing their best basketball down the stretch, and understand that now is not the time to let off the gas.

"In this opening game, I want to see my team look consistently unflappable," Wabaunsee head coach Christian Ulsaker said. "Basketball is a game of runs and we need to control those runs."

The winner of this contest will advance to the bracket semifinals where they will await either 12-7 St. Mary's or 8-12 KC Christian.

On the other side of the bracket, the #1 team in Class 2A in Lyndon (19-1) will host Maranatha Christian Academy (2-16), with the winner moving on to play either Mission Valley (11-9) or Topeka-Cair Paravel (8-12).

Tip-off between the Chargers and Bears is set for 7:00 at Wabausnsee High School in Alma.

CLEBURNE, Texas – A 12-run sixth inning, seven homers and 22 hits helped Kansas score its most runs since 1997 in a 26-3 win against Oakland on Sunday at The Depot at Cleburne Station.

KU offense explodes for 26 runs, 7 homers on Sunday

LAWRENCE –&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;women’s basketball&nbsp;finished off a season-sweep of Oklahoma State on Sunday&nbsp;afternoon, defeating the Cowgirls 66-57 at Allen Fieldhouse. The victory&nbsp;was a milestone for Kansas Coach Brandon Schneider, who picks up his 500th career win as a collegiate head coach.

Kansas improved&nbsp;to 17-10 on the year and 7-9 in Big 12 with the win&nbsp;and ended&nbsp;OSU’s six-game win streak&nbsp;as&nbsp;&nbsp;the Cowgirls&nbsp;fell&nbsp;to 20-8 (10-6 Big 12).&nbsp;

“There’s a lot of folks out there who have taught me a lot and I’ve been fortunate to coach some incredible players who took a lot of pride in representing the three universities that we have been blessed to be a part of,” Schneider said of the milestone. “We had to get this win today and our team knows that we have got to continue to add to our resume. The work’s not over.”

Kansas had four players in double figures, led by&nbsp;junior guard&nbsp;Chandler Prater who scored 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds.&nbsp;Senior guard&nbsp;Zakiyah Franklin and&nbsp;junior guard&nbsp;Wyvette Mayberry had 15 points apiece, while&nbsp;senior center&nbsp;Taiyanna Jackson had her 18th double-double of the season with 12 points and 21 rebounds, which matches her career high. Jackson added five blocked shots, giving her 82 for the year, which moves her into fifth on KU’s single-season blocks list.&nbsp;

The teams traded baskets in the early going and things stayed within one possession for the entire first quarter, which ended with a three-point play from Franklin that gave KU a 16-15 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Jayhawks used a pair of 7-0 runs in the second quarter to build a 36-26 lead with 1:54 to play in the half, but OSU used a 7-2 run to get within five, 38-33, at&nbsp;halftime.&nbsp;

KU slowed down Oklahoma State defensively in the third quarter, limiting the Cowgirls to nine points on 3-of-14 shooting while closing out the quarter on another 7-0 run to lead 55-42 with 10 minutes to play. The Jayhawks closed the game out by continuing to limit OSU’s offensive production and KU led by double figures until the Cowgirls scored the final five points of the game to make the final margin nine.&nbsp;

Kansas was dominant in the post, outscoring OSU 48-30 in the paint while outrebounding the Cowgirls 44-to-36. The Jayhawks shot 42.6% (29-of-68) from the field, while limiting OSU to 37.1% (23-of-62) shooting. KU turned 13 Oklahoma State turnovers into eight points and scored 17 second-chance points and 11 points on the fast break.

K-State (16-13, 5-11 Big 12) was led by sophomore guard Serena Sundell with 21 points, four assists, four rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. This was Sundell’s second 20-point game of the week, as she scored 24 against Kansas on Wednesday.

Sophomore Jaelyn Glenn added 12 points, four rebounds and three steals, while freshman Eliza Maupin came off the bench to chip in with 11 points and nine rebounds in a career-high 26 minutes.

It was the first road win since a 97-95 overtime win at Baylor on Jan. 7. The victory also gave the Wildcats’ double-digit wins in league play for the 10th time in the Big 12 era and the first time since 2018-19.&nbsp;

Trailing 60-59 with 6:23 remaining, K-State took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Johnson which was followed 50 seconds later by another triple from Massoud that gave the Wildcats a 65-60 lead with just over 5 minutes to play. After the Cowboys closed to within 65-63 with 2:44 remaining, the Wildcats got key plays down the stretch from their backcourt, including 4 free throws from senior&nbsp;Markquis Nowell, a layup from senior&nbsp;Desi Sills&nbsp;and 2 free throws from sophomore&nbsp;Cam Carter.&nbsp;

Nowell led three Wildcats in double figures with a game-high 22 points on 5-of-12 field goals, including 3-of-8 from 3-point range, and 9-of-10 free throws, while adding a game-high 8 assists and 4 steals and a team-high 5 rebounds in nearly 39 minutes. Johnson scored 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, while senior&nbsp;Desi Sills&nbsp;posted 10 points in his third consecutive start.

For the third straight game, K-State had to rally from a halftime deficit, as Oklahoma State (16-13, 7-9 Big 12) used an 11-0 run to take as much as a 6-point lead in the first half. Sills was able to pull the Wildcats to within 35-33 at the break on a pair of free throws and a layup and steal right before the buzzer.&nbsp;

K-State used a 7-0 run in the first 5 minutes of the second half to take a 40-39 lead, but OSU responded with its own 7-0 run to take its largest lead at 53-45 with just over 12 minutes to play. A key moment in the game came minutes later after the Wildcats closed the gap to 53-49, as head coach&nbsp;Jerome Tang&nbsp;was whistled for a technical with 10:49 remaining, allowing the Cowboys to take a 55-49 lead.&nbsp;

The technical seemed to spark K-State, as the Wildcats rattled off 6 straight points capped by a 3-pointer from Carter to tie the game at 55-all with 9:17 remaining. The teams traded the lead over the next few possessions before the pivotal stretch of 3-pointers from Johnson and Massoud.

Overall, K-State outscored OSU, 24-13, in the final 10:49 after the Tang technical.

The Wildcats hit on 49 percent (24-of-49) of their field goals, including 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from 3-point range, while connecting on 85 percent (17-of-20) from the free throw line. In the second half, the team shot 52 percent (13-of-25) from the field, including 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from 3, and made 9 of 10 free throws.

Four Cowboys scored in double figures led by junior&nbsp;Kalib Boone, who had 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Seniors&nbsp;Caleb Asberry&nbsp;and&nbsp;John-Michael Wright&nbsp;scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, while junior&nbsp;Bryce Thompson&nbsp;added 11 points. Senior&nbsp;Woody Newton&nbsp;led all players with 7 rebounds to go with 6 points.

The win helped K-State sweep the season series with OSU for the first time since 2019, as the Wildcats now lead the all-time series, 85-58.

“I’m truly blessed to be around this team. They are just so much fun to be around. I thought that everyone who watched today&nbsp;saw their heart out there. They just didn't quit. We told them there was going to be adversity and you had to look adversity in the face and smile, and then slap the crap out of it. And, and that was our quote. And they did. I was so proud of them. And it's just like life, it just throws things at you that you don't expect. You guys don’t know what's going on behind the scenes, you don't know who's sick, you don't know whose family member passed away. You don't you don't know any of those things. And you just watch them on the floor and make a judgment about who played well or didn't play well, and for all the stuff that they face, to be able to continually come out here and give that kind of effort and believe in each other. And we call it crazy faith, man to have that kind of crazy faith in each other. And in the staff. I'm just blessed beyond words. And secondly, I'd just like to thank our fans, there was a timeout there where our fans were so loud that they had to crank the music up. Otherwise, you'd have heard K-S-U throughout the arena. And so that was so cool. I'm super blessed. This is a dream come true. To be doing what I'm doing. The people I'm doing it with and couldn't be more thankful.”

On having someone like Markquis Nowell at the end of games to make free throws…

“We are extremely fortunate to have Markquis. I mean he played nearly 40 minutes. I think he missed a minute and a half of game time, and we were trying to figure out a way to get him rest. But yeah, we're fortunate to have him but we also have a good free throw shooter in Ish (Massoud) who shoot like 95 percent from the line, and Cam Carter makes big free throws. That's just what he does.”&nbsp;

“They (the officials) told me that I was just too demonstrative. That was it. I didn’t say anything. I made sure to tell the guys on the radio (in postgame), so my mom heard that I didn’t say anything (bad). But I was demonstrative. I was demonstrative on purpose. They felt like, there was some ticky-tac calls that went their way that resulted in and-ones and there were some physical plays that didn't go our way. That didn't result in what I wanted. And then from that point on, we outscored them 24-13. And so, I believe that it inspired our guys to play a little bit harder to fight a little harder. And I felt like it impacted the way the refs called the game.”

On the guys battling through adversity…&nbsp;

“I think the brotherhood, the fact that they get to be with each other and support each other and have a chance to be on the floor and not think about what's going on and just play the game of basketball, that, that it's real good. I'm so proud of my staff, for Anne (Weese) and Deja (James), who are our mental health and wellness coaches that pour into our guys and are there for them. And in all kinds of situations, we're blessed to be able to provide that kind of service to our players and our staff and our team takes advantage of it. And so just constantly trying to make sure our guys are doing well away from basketball, because that's more important to me than whether they're putting the ball in the hole.”

On what you have done differently during the 3-game winning streak…

“I think when we lost four of five games, three of those were on the road. And I think there was a back-to-back road trip in there as well. It’s hard to win on the road in this league. I didn’t think that I did a very good job of resting our guys. And we could see that we were tired. And so, we've approached what we do differently. The last few games and I felt like our guys have had their legs and better energy, which has given us the opportunity to be in a position to win some of these close games.”

On how satisfying it is to win on the road…

“Anytime you win, it is satisfying. And I know that I’m fired up because we’re going to Marble Slab for ice cream because you get dessert for road wins. So, we are going to go enjoy this one.”

K-State concludes its home season on Wednesday, as the Wildcats welcome Oklahoma (14-15, 4-12 Big 12) at 7 p.m., CT on Big 12 Now. The Sooners won the first meeting, 79-65, at home on Feb. 14.

MBB: Late 3-pointers lift K-State past Oklahoma State

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs promoted Matt Nagy to offensive coordinator to replace the departed Eric Bieniemy on Friday, giving him the job he held before departing Andy Reid's staff for an opportunity as the head coach in Chicago.

Nagy spent two seasons directing the Chiefs' offense with Alex Smith at quarterback. He then spent four seasons with the Bears, going 34-31 in the regular season and winning the NFC North in 2018, before he was fired after a 6-11 season in 2021. He returned to the Chiefs as their quarterbacks coach.

Bieniemy had been the Chiefs' offensive coordinator the past five seasons, but was passed over numerous times for head coachings jobs. The perception has been that Reid had the majority of the say in Kansas City's offense.

Partly in response to that, Bieniemy left Kansas City after its win over the Eagles in the Super Bowl to take the offensive coordinator job in Washington, where he will have more responsibility and call the offensive plays.

MANHATTAN –&nbsp;K-State used a stellar defensive effort to split the season series with Kansas in the Dillons Sunflower Showdown with a 63-45 win on Wednesday night in Bramlage Coliseum. K-State has now won 38 of the last 48 meetings in the series.

K-State (16-12, 5-10 Big 12) held Kansas (16-10, 6-9) to its lowest offensive output of the season with 45 points and a field goal percentage of 31.4 percent. The 45 points were the fewest points K-State has allowed in the series since a 47-43 K-State win on Feb. 12, 2012. This was the fourth time in 20 meetings in the Jeff Mittie era that K-State has surrendered 50 points or less to the Jayhawks.

The Wildcats were led on Wednesday night by sophomore guard Serena Sundell with a game-high 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting and 8-of-9 from the foul line. The product of Maryville, Missouri, added seven assists, five rebounds and four steals to her final stat line. Over the last eight games, Sundell has scored 20 or more points four times.

Joining Sundell in double figures was senior guard and 2022-23 Drysdale Award candidate Gabby Gregory with 20 points and four rebounds. Gregory registered her 17th&nbsp;game this season with 20 or more points, which is the most of any player in the Big 12 this season and the third most in a season in program history.

K-State women lock down KU in Sunflower Showdown

"Quarterback" is the first partnership between the league and the streaming service. NFL Films, Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions and Mahomes' 2PM Productions will produce the series.

The series followed Mahomes, Cousins, and Mariota throughout the past season. It also marked the first time the NFL allowed quarterbacks to be mic'd up for every game.

Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to their second Super Bowl championship in four seasons and won MVP honors for rallying them to a 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Cousins helped lead the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC North title, including a dramatic 39-36 overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Dec. 17 for the largest comeback in NFL history.

Mariota started 13 games in his first season with the Atlanta Falcons.

"I'm excited for fans to get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at an unforgettable season for the entire Chiefs organization and my family," Mahomes said in a statement. Vermes, the fourth-winningest coach in MLS history, will begin his 15th season with the club when it faces the Portland Timbers on Saturday. He's led Sporting KC to 10 playoff appearances and the 2013 MLS Cup along with three U.S. Open Cup titles, and his four major trophies are one behind Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley for the most in U.S. soccer history.

"Peter is a superlative strategic thinker who loves to win and hates to lose," Sporting KC co-owner Mike Illig said. "He continuously demonstrates his commitment to our ownership's objective to elevate Sporting KC as a perennial contender in a league that grows tougher and tougher every year. He is also fully dedicated to our long-term strategy of developing young, high-potential players into the next generation of Sporting professionals."

Vermes appeared in 67 games for the U.S. national team, including the 1988 Summer Olympics and 1990 World Cup, before wrapping up his career in MLS, where he led the precursor to Sporting KC to the 2000 Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup.

He became the Kansas City club's technical director after retiring as a player, then took over head coaching duties in 2009, which makes him the longest-tenured coach in MLS history and one of the longest-serving managers in global soccer. He has led the club, rebranded as Sporting KC, through 516 matches across all competitions.

Vermes, who was inducted into the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 2013, has also taken up leadership positions within MLS, including helping the league establish return-to-play protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Peter has earned the recognition and respect of many across soccer regionally, nationally and throughout the MLS community," Illig said. "We trust that his intrepid leadership will help bring more titles to this club and city."

Sporting KC signs manager Peter Vermes to 5-year extension

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Kansas State coach Jerome Tang leaped onto the courtside table and pumped his fists, then landed a spectacular dismount, before climbing into the student section and joining in the “Wabash Cannonball” dance to celebrate another ranked win.

Keyontae Johnson scored 25 points, Markquis Nowell added 14 points and 10 assists, and the No. 14 Wildcats followed a long first-half slump with a big second-half run to beat ninth-ranked Baylor 75-65 on Tuesday night.

In doing so, they gave their first-year coach a season sweep of Tang's former team and his longtime mentor, Scott Drew.

“I tried to tell y’all I’m athletic,” said Tang, who spent 19 years on the Baylor bench and helped bring a national title to Waco, Texas. “They were arguably the hottest team in the league, except the second half of the last game and this game.”

Cam Carter added 10 points for the Wildcats (21-7, 9-6 Big 12), who trailed 34-31 at the break before their 18-4 charge gave them control. They coasted from there to a school record-tying seventh win over a ranked team this season.

The last two — against Iowa State and Baylor — came after the Wildcats had lost four of five.

“I thought it was another typical Big 12 game,” Drew said. “K-State played like you're supposed to on your home court. I thought Keyontae Johnson, we really had trouble matching up with him pretty much all night, and then Nowell struggled from the field but 10 assists, zero turnovers. That's why they're first-team all-leaguers.”

Keyonte George hit six 3-pointers and scored 23 points to lead Baylor (20-8, 9-6), which had won seven of its last eight against the Wildcats and three straight in Manhattan. LJ Cryer added four 3s and finished with 16 points.

“You know, it comes back to all of us. It's a team effort,” George said. “We just have to play harder, including myself.”

Baylor was coming off an 87-71 loss at No. 3 Kansas on Saturday in which the Bears were phenomenal in the first half, building a 17-point lead, and dreadful in the second, when they were outscored 55-26 while looking listless and lost.

The Bears' kept that Jekyll-and-Hyde act going Tuesday night.

Their sluggish finish in Lawrence carried over to the opening 13 minutes in Manhattan, when the Wildcats were able to methodically build a 24-13 lead. But after Drew called a timeout, his guys answered with a 3-pointer fueled 21-3 run over the next 6-plus minutes, allowing Baylor to take a 34-31 advantage into the break.

Cryer did most of the damage, going 4 of 5 from beyond the arc and scoring 11 first-half points.

“We did a really good job early and we messed up on some ball-screen coverages and they were able to make some 3s,” Tang said. “At halftime the team said, ‘Coach, if we do this it’ll make it better for us.' And the fact that they were thinking about how the problems were taking place and they came up with the solution, that was big time.”

Whatever the change, it certainly worked.

The Bears still led 40-37 in the opening minutes of the second half when Johnson scored back-to-back baskets to give Kansas State the lead. David N'Guessan kept the charge going, and it eventually reached 18-4 when Carter took a turnover by the Bears' Caleb Lohner for a dunk that made it 55-44 with just over 8 minutes left in the game.

Final KBCA girl's basketball rankings

MANHATTAN –&nbsp;K-State sophomores Serena Sundell and Brylee Glenn have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District VII team. This is the first such honor for both student-athletes.

As a program, K-State women’s basketball has earned 27 (formerly CoSIDA) CSC Academic All-District VII citations by 17 student-athletes.

As Academic All-District selections, Sundell and Glenn advance to the CSC Academic All-America Team selection process, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in mid-March.

Sundell, a guard from Maryville, Missouri, is a business management major who has garnered 2021-22 Big 12 Academic All-Rookie Team honors and is a three-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient.

On the floor, Sundell is averaging a career-high 12.5 points on a career-best .447 field goal percentage. She has also established career season-highs for free throws made and attempted (119-of-148), rebounds (131) and steals (43). Sundell’s total of 119 free throws made this season rank tied for 10th&nbsp;in school history for a single season. Her 137 assists rank 26th&nbsp;in the nation and are the fourth-most in a sophomore season in school history.

She is the third player in program history to reach 300 or more career assists by the conclusion of their sophomore season, joining Shalee Lehning (368) and Megan Mahoney (321). Sundell and Mahoney are the only two players in school history with 600 or more points and 300 or more assists by the end of their sophomore season.

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Aroldis Chapman can earn up to $8.75 million as part of his one-year contract with the Kansas City Royals if he regains a job as a regular closer.

The left-hander, who turns 35 on Feb. 28, is guaranteed $3.75 million under the deal announced Jan. 27.

Chapman can earn $2.5 million in performance bonuses based on games: $312,500 for 20 and for each additional five through 55. He also can earn $2.5 million based on games finished: $312,500 for 12 and for each additional four through 40.

He averaged 100.7 mph on his fastball in 2016 but dropped below 100 mph in 2018 and was at a career-low 97.5 last season. He was 4-4 with a 4.46 ERA last season for the Yankees, walking 28 and striking out 43 in 36 1/3 innings.

Chapman had spent time on the injured list with Achilles tendinitis in May, then lost the closer job to Clay Holmes. He was on the IL again in August for a leg infection following a tattoo, then missed a mandatory team workout for the playoffs and was left off the Division Series roster.

He would earn $100,000 for winning an MVP award or a Cy Young Award and $50,000 for finishing second through fifth in the voting. He would get $100,000 for World Series MVP or winning the Mariano Rivera/Trevor Hoffman reliever of the year award, and $50,000 for becoming a Rivera/Hoffman finalist. Chapman would get $50,000 for making the All-Star team, winning a Gold Glove or the League Championship Series MVP. He gets a hotel suite on road trips.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Big 12 scoring leader Jalen Wilson was struggling with his shot for third-ranked Kansas, and standout freshman Gradey Dick didn't score again after reaching 19 points only two minutes into the second half.

The Jayhawks, in pursuit of their 21st Big 12 regular-season title, still never trailed after halftime and extended the league's longest active winning streak to five in a row, beating&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-basketball-poll">24th-ranked TCU</a>&nbsp;63-58 on Monday night.

“I’ve said all along, we’ve got five guys that can all go out there and play and take over the game. And that’s the beauty of our team," said Wilson, who had 13 rebounds while&nbsp;<a href="https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/35704230">making only 3-of-11 shots for seven points</a>, more than 13 below his season average. “We’re all going to have some type of effort to win. ... That’s part of a championship team."

Damion Baugh missed a potential tying 3-pointer with five seconds left for TCU (18-10, 7-8 Big 12). Shahada Wells missed a follow-up layup before Kevin McCullar,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/35704091">who finished with 15 points</a>, was fouled and made two free throws to seal it for the Jayhawks (23-5, 11-4).

Kansas began the night tied with idle eighth-ranked Texas for the conference lead. Coach Bill Self's reigning national champions have won seven of eight games since a three-game losing streak that included a 23-point home loss to the Horned Frogs.

“We haven’t accomplished jack, but we've put ourselves in a favorable position to maybe do something,” Self said. “Everybody talked about our sky's falling when we lost three in a row. In this league, that can happen easily. But we’ve recovered pretty good since then."

They were within 56-53 with 6:07 left when the four-year starting quarterback, still in his tuxedo after receiving the Davey O’Brien Award in a ceremony about four miles from campus, waved the crowd into a frenzy while going to a courtside seat.

“He looked good tonight with the tux on,” Self said. "I’m just glad he didn’t get here any earlier.”

Neither team made a field goal in the final 4:19. TCU missed its last six shots over that span, while the Jayhawks were 0-for-4 in the final 4:45.

The Frogs tied the game at 48 with 10:13 left when&nbsp;<a href="https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/35704179">Jakobe Coles made a tough leaner</a>&nbsp;while being fouled, but missed the free throw that would have put them in the lead.

Mike Miles Jr. had 13 points for TCU, which has lost five of its last six games. The first four of those losses came when the guard was out with a hyperextended right knee. Coles added 12 points and Baugh had 11.

It was only the second game Miles and big man Eddie Lampkin played together for the Frogs since their 83-60 win at Allen Fieldhouse on Jan. 21. That was the second-worst home loss for Kansas in Self’s 20 seasons.

With both of them starting again, TCU beat Oklahoma State 100-75 at home Saturday to end a four-game losing streak while hitting the century mark in a Big 12 game for the first time. Lampkin, who missed four of six games after a high left ankle sprain in the first meeting against the Jayhawks, had two points and eight rebounds in the rematch.

“It’s disappointing how we played and how we executed and how we handled the situation,” TCU coach Jamie Dixon said. “Obviously played good in our last game, excited about having our guys back. But we just didn’t carry it over.”

Kansas: The Jayhawks reached 11 conference wins for the 29th consecutive season, a streak that began in 1994-95 and is the longest active in Division I. They have three regular-season games left, two at home before the finale at Texas.

TCU: After shooting a season-high 68.6% against Oklahoma State two days earlier, the Frogs were a season-low 30.3% (20 of 66) from the field against Kansas. They missed their first eight shots in the first 5 1/2 minutes of the game, then missed their last six shots before the break. TCU missed nine of it last 10.

Kansas is home Saturday to play West Virginia.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — With the Super Bowl
 in the rearview, all eyes in St. Joseph are turning to ensuring the 
return of Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp this summer. &nbsp;

Mayor 
John Josendale says the effort to keep Chiefs Training Camp at Missouri 
Western is a combined effort between the city, Chamber of Commerce, 
Mosaic Life Care, as well as Missouri Western. &nbsp;

 in the rearview, all eyes in St. Joseph are turning to ensuring the 
return of Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp this summer. &nbsp;Mayor 
John Josendale says the effort to keep Chiefs Training Camp at Missouri 
Western is a combined effort between the city, Chamber of Commerce, 
Mosaic Life Care, as well as Missouri Western. &nbsp;Josendale says the Chiefs are very demanding with Chiefs President Mark Donovan wanting every year to be bigger and better.&nbsp;"Last
 year we kind of did that, so this year doing it with the world champion
 Chiefs and being able to do it in St. Joe, we're looking forward to 
that," Josendale tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline. "So, we're 
going to plan for them being here, hopefully that comes through in the 
next couple of months that they're here, and we'll build on that."&nbsp;Chiefs
 Training Camp has been hosted at Missouri Western State University 
since 2010, except for the COVID year.&nbsp; Josendale says currently the 
deal being negotiated is on a year-to-year basis.&nbsp;"We know that 
we did very well last year, that we got very strong reviews, we know 
that Andy Reid does like being in St. Joe," Josendale says. &nbsp;Josendale says it's also well known that the players enjoy being here as well.&nbsp;"They
 come up here, they stay, they get away from the home life in Kansas 
City or wherever they're from, it blends them together and puts them in 
together to where they build that team comradery," Josendale explains.&nbsp;The
 Chiefs would be coming back to St. Joe as world champions, after 
defeating the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.&nbsp; Mayor John Josendale says he 
thinks it's fair that St. Joseph can take a little credit for that, as 
the place that journey started.&nbsp;"We put our best foot forward 
when we show the town at that, and this is something that's really 
exciting, not only for us, but when Kansas City wins a world 
championship, St. Joe wins also," Josendale says.
