Walter R "Ron" McKenzie Sr., 82, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at his home in Junction City. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tim Maguffee officiating. The family will have a reception at the church one hour prior to the service. The burial will follow the funeral at Highland Cemetery. Ron was born August 12, 1938, in Beaumont, TX the son of James William and Rosa Del (McCaa) McKenzie, Jr. Ron served in the Navy for two years. He worked as a civil servant at Fort Riley for forty three years before he retired. Ron also attended Kansas State University. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Union Lodge #7 A.F.&amp;A.M. in Junction City, KS. He married Rosemary Ann Chapman on November 11, 1961. She passed away June 18, 2019. Survivors include one son; Bud McKenzie and his wife Kelly of Abilene, KS; one daughter, Karin Rosa and her husband William of Riley, KS; seven grandchildren, Abigail McKenzie, Dylan McKenzie, Allison McKenzie, Rocky Barber and his wife Heidi, Christopher Barber and his wife Heather, Rikki Weatzig and her husband Derick and Collins Barber and his wife Dani; sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchild. This included time spent in Kuwait. Following his time in the military, he managed a local hotel while developing his own janitorial business that later franchised to Rainbow International in 2012. In a short period of time Rick became a Master Restorer, receiving numerous awards including Franchisee for the Year for 2015. Although proud of his awards, his passion was in teaching others and creating futures for the people around him. He did what he loved and loved what he did. Rick was an avid Nascar, Football and Soccer fan. He was a member of the 70th Armor Regiment, the Junction City Elk’s Lodge, multiple committees for the Rainbow International corporate offices, coached multiple youth sports teams, former member of Legacy Church of Grandview Plaza, and recently attending the JC Nazarene Church. He loved traveling, mountain climbing with his pals in Colorado, hunting and riding his Harley. Rick will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. On May 13, 2000 he married Kellie Boltz-Swango, Kellie survives of the home. Richard is also survived by his mother, Jean McNabb of Ootlewah, TN; Stepfather, Carl Hoffman of Panama City, FL; Daughters, Karsen Lechner of Las Vegas, NV and Brooke Swango of Junction City, KS; two Grandchildren, Madalyn and Jonas of Las Vegas, NV. Kathleen Ann Bechtel, age 72, of Manhattan, died July 19, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House. Kathleen graduated from Mineola High School in Garden City Park, NY, earned her bachelors’ degree from Fredonia State University in Fredonia, NY, and her ESL Certification from Kansas State University. She was an elementary school Spanish teacher for USD#383 (1987-2006, retired) and taught French, Spanish, and Russian at Monsignor Lucky High School, as well as elementary school Spanish in the Manhattan Catholic Schools (1985-1987). During her fight with cancer, her proudest achievement was the authoring and self-publishing the children’s book ‘A Puzzled Gracie’ with proceeds donated to the Mayo Clinic of Rochester Minnesota. Upon beating cancer, Kathleen had plans to write additional children’s books to share her teachings in perpetuity. Kathleen was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and a choir member who also played the organ for Mass. She was also a member of the Pilot Club of Manhattan, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and P.E.O. On August 7, 1971, in Mineola, NY, she was married to Donald Bruce Bechtel. Dr. Bechtel survives of the home. Stephen D. Vasey, of Olsburg, Kansas passed away at the age of 74&nbsp; July 2, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on 31 October 1946. Stephen was a 1964 graduate of Dracut High school in Dracut, Massachusetts and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in History from Kansas State University in 1990. Stephen served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, including two tours of Vietnam. During his military service, he worked as a combat engineer, heavy equipment mechanic, and motor pool officer. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in 1986. The second season of his professional life included an array of different professions. Most notably, Stephen was the inventor of a thermal targeting system for the military. After full professional retirement, he discovered a love and knack for baking which he gifted to his circle of friends and medical service providers who supported him as he grappled with Agent Orange-related illnesses, a result of his war-time service. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and his church. Stephen is survived by his four children: Allison Evarts and husband Kyle, Heather, Andrew, and Daniel; three grandchildren Joshua Evarts, Jonah Evarts, and Tryston Vasey. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m.&nbsp; July 24, 2021 at the Olsburg Cemetery in Olsburg, Kansas. Pastor Sterling Hudgins of Agape Family Church will be officiating. Dr. Clyde Randolph Ferguson, age 91, resident of Manhattan since 1960, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 15th at Ascension Via Christi Hospital, surrounded by his children. Clyde was born on June 3, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Clyde Chamblee Ferguson and Zelda Ellena (Montgomery) Ferguson. Raised in Marlow, Oklahoma, he graduated Marlow High in 1949 as a three-sport letterman in football, basketball, and track. He then enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, just as his parents had done. In 1950, his National Guard unit was called into active service and he was shipped overseas as part of the United States Army’s Occupation of Japan. Subsequently, in 1951, the 179th Infantry Regiment of the 45th Division was sent to Korea where Clyde saw active combat. He was a decorated Korean War Veteran. After his military service, he returned to college and completed his Bachelor of Arts in history, graduating with honors. The University of Oklahoma and his affiliations there with Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society remained a source of friendship and connection throughout his life. During his early college years, he met the love of his life, Marilena Hedrick. She remembered being attracted to a “certain tall guy who quoted Robert Service poems” to her. They were married on June 11, 1954, by her father, Chaplain Robert Hedrick at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma. In 1955, the newlyweds moved, sight unseen, to Durham, North Carolina. Clyde entered the Masters's/Ph.D. program at Duke University while Lena began to teach elementary school. After his confirmation as a Doctor Of Philosophy of History in 1960, Clyde and Lena moved to Manhattan, Kansas, where he had accepted a teaching position at Kansas State University. He would proceed to teach 33 years of students the fundamental importance of the American Revolution. In Manhattan, Clyde and Lena became a family of five, while creating a life rich with lasting friendships, individual hobbies and pursuits, a shared love of travel, and an atmosphere of humor and laughter. Clyde was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, hunter, and golfer. He was an avid birdwatcher and his passion took him around the world to see the birds of Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Spain, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Australia ... and Pottawatomie State Lake #2. He was a veteran of countless Audubon winter bird counts and a strong supporter of the Northern Flint Hills Audubon Society. In 1985, he co-founded their primary fundraiser, the NFHAS Birdathon. He and Lena were devoted Wildcat fans and held KSU football and basketball season tickets from 1960 through 2019. They loved tailgating before games with loyal friends and celebrating at home or at the Little Apple Brewery, where Clyde held the honor of Mug #124. Clyde rejoins Marilena, who died in 2014. He is survived by his brother Jim Ferguson and sister-in-law, Susan. Clyde also leaves behind an adoring family, including his daughter Maria and wife Sheree Goecke and their daughter Alyssa Renck; son Chamblee Ferguson and his wife Lynn Blackburn and their children Mackenzie, Alexander, and Liam Ferguson; son Bob Ferguson and his wife Holly and their children Hannah Haidar, Charlotte and Phoebe Ferguson. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins he absolutely adored.  Wayne Stephenson, 92, of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, died July 12, 2021. 
He was born April 13, 1929, Christ Hospital, Topeka, Kansas, to Lee 
Raymond and Ruby Alta Stephenson. He has been a resident of Eureka 
Springs for the past fifteen years, after moving from Greensburg, 
Kansas, where he was high school principal, then superintendent of 
schools from 1966 to 1976. He later retired back to Greensburg after 
twenty years in the lodging business, and became manager of the Big 
Well. Richard was a member and lay speaker of the Greensburg United 
Methodist Church. He was president of the Pratt Gideon Camp, Rotary, 
Lions, and Chamber of Commerce. He served in the United States Navy from
 1951-1955. He was a 1947 graduate of Alexander High School and a 
graduate of Fort Hays State University (B.S. in 1957) and M.S. in 
Educational Administration in 1961. He was a teacher/administrator in 
four Kansas school districts from 1957 to 1976. He married 
Marjorie Ann Renz in 1951 in the Hope Lutheran Church in Rush Center, 
Kansas. They were happily married for 69 years. Marjorie preceded him in
 death on February 17, 2020. Also deceased: Richard’s parents and 
stepfather (Henry Bott) and one grandson (Abe Foncannon). Survivors 
include: daughters Ellen Stephenson and Jody Stephenson, son-in-law Ron 
Lutz, son Jay Stephenson, all of Eureka Springs; grandson Ray (Ruth) 
Stephenson of Manhattan, Kansas; sister Vera Mae (Ron) Williams of 
Manhattan, Kansas. A military inurnment will be held at the Fayetteville National Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to ECHO (Eureka Christian Health Outreach) of Eureka Springs, Arkansas.&nbsp;

 Wayne Stephenson, 92, of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, died July 12, 2021. 
He was born April 13, 1929, Christ Hospital, Topeka, Kansas, to Lee 
Raymond and Ruby Alta Stephenson. He has been a resident of Eureka 
Springs for the past fifteen years, after moving from Greensburg, 
Kansas, where he was high school principal, then superintendent of 
schools from 1966 to 1976. He later retired back to Greensburg after 
twenty years in the lodging business, and became manager of the Big 
Well. Richard was a member and lay speaker of the Greensburg United 
Methodist Church. He was president of the Pratt Gideon Camp, Rotary, 
Lions, and Chamber of Commerce. He served in the United States Navy from
 1951-1955. He was a 1947 graduate of Alexander High School and a 
graduate of Fort Hays State University (B.S. in 1957) and M.S. in 
Educational Administration in 1961. He was a teacher/administrator in 
four Kansas school districts from 1957 to 1976. He married 
Marjorie Ann Renz in 1951 in the Hope Lutheran Church in Rush Center, 
Kansas. They were happily married for 69 years. Marjorie preceded him in
 death on February 17, 2020. Also deceased: Richard’s parents and 
stepfather (Henry Bott) and one grandson (Abe Foncannon). Survivors 
include: daughters Ellen Stephenson and Jody Stephenson, son-in-law Ron 
Lutz, son Jay Stephenson, all of Eureka Springs; grandson Ray (Ruth) 
Stephenson of Manhattan, Kansas; sister Vera Mae (Ron) Williams of 
Manhattan, Kansas. A military inurnment will be held at the Fayetteville National Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to ECHO (Eureka Christian Health Outreach) of Eureka Springs, Arkansas.&nbsp;

Conchita “Connie” de Jesus was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. After telling family she was “ready to go to the party,” she quietly passed on July 15, 2021 at age 89. She was preceded in death by her husband Jose de Jesus, Sr. (1LT, U.S. Army, RET); her sister, Cecelia; and a young daughter, Joanne de Jesus. She is survived by two sons, Jose (Jacque) de Jesus, Jr., and Tony de Jesus; and two daughters, Kathy Davenport and Marilyn Tinker. She has seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Patricia Bantugan, and her dear aunt, Rita Santos. Connie worked for several years for the Housing Office at Fort Riley, KS. She was proud of the work she did there and the many people she met and worked with. But her greatest joys came later in life while serving her family and interacting in the community. Connie was well known for her award-winning baked goods, to include her famous chocolate chip cookies and carrot cake that she would gift to others during the holidays. Her legacy of great cooking and comfort food has been handed down through cherished recipes that her children and grandchildren now prepare. She enjoyed having large family gatherings where she could spoil the grandchildren, make hand-cranked home-made ice cream, and teach the art of preparing fried rice, pancit, and Filipino egg rolls. An avid Kansas City and K-State sports fan, she was known for cheering on the Chiefs, Royals, or Wildcats every weekend while wearing either her Purple Pride or KC attire. She knew game stats, the coaches, and all the players. If a team didn’t perform well, she could be heard hollering at them from her official position at couch-side. A self-proclaimed coupon queen, Connie hunted the best deals at the best prices. If she gave you a Dillon's shopping list and coupons, your mission was to ensure you received the proper discounts. Failure would dictate a return to the store for remedial couponing. She had fun re investing her coupon savings into slot machines at the nearby casino. A lifetime animal lover, her last and best furry friend is her mischievous cat, Buddy, a stray she adopted and who has surpassed his quota of nine lives. Buddy became a minor celebrity when he was featured in multiple cat calendars-one of which was a national-level publication. Connie made sure Buddy remained humble despite his fame. Connie’s wishes were to be cremated. A funeral mass at St. Xavier’s Catholic Church will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2021, with interment at Fort Riley Cemetery. Normann L. Burwell, 90 passed away July 17, 2021. He was born July 20, 1930 at Manhattan, KS, the son of Walter and Lillian Burwell. He graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1948. On August 16, 1964 he married Genevieve Anguiano.

 He is survived by his wife of the home, son, David Cress (Dee), Daughter Liz Alvarez (Mark Larson). Three granddaughters, Caitlin Wallace (Grant), Becca Fritch (Garrett) and Karli Alvarez. One great-granddaughter Metilda Marie Wallace. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Perry Donald Burwell and sister Lucille Burwell Norris. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 22, 2021 at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Fr. Peter O’Donnell as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Abilene. Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Danner Funeral Home. Family will receive friends following. Robert Joseph (Joe) Foltz was born on September 29, 1927 to Edward Joseph Foltz and Ethel (Van Dyke) Foltz. He went to be with the Lord July 17, 2021. His father passed away when he was a baby and he was raised by his mother in Abilene and Topeka. He attended McKinley Grade School and Abilene Jr. High until his mother transferred to Topeka in 1939. He attended Topeka High School where he excelled in basketball and track, and was a lifelong sports fan. In 1944, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific aboard the destroyer McCaffery. After the war, Joe enjoyed playing basketball on the Navy team, traveling to various college campuses and occasionally to Mexico. When his enlistment was up he returned to his favorite place and farmed with his uncle Herman and aunt Laura Felbush. On August 21 1949, Joe was united in marriage to Donna Mae Ming in Abilene, and to this union nine children were born. Donna unexpectedly passed away on November 17, 1963. Joe was active in the New Basel Church where he served as a Deacon. He helped organize the Rural Center Ball Club where all nine children played ball. He was on the Rural Center school board when the school was organized and built. Joe drove a school bus, helped his children with their projects at the Holland Sunflower 4-H Club, and enjoyed their fair projects each summer. Joe also farmed, raised registered Angus cattle, buffalo, hogs, chickens, peacocks, goats, horses and pigeons. On October 19, 1969 Joe was united in marriage to Naoma Schmutz Heller, and she and her four children joined his family. In 1985, Joe started a Calf Care Center with his son Gary, and eventually turned the farm and cattle business over to him in 2004. Joe and Naoma then moved from the farm to Abilene in 2013. Joe is survived by his wife Naoma, children; Kathy (Ron) Lehnerz, Arizona, Edward (Marilyn),Abilene Stan, Abilene Jody Ford, Arizona Peggy Swanson, Salina Casey (Jane),Abilene Gary (Deb),Abilene Lauri (Harold) Terry, Salina Sherri (James) Hedstrom, Chapman Sally (Dave) Eshelman, Topeka Randy (Kris) Heller, Chapman Ron (Nancy) Heller, Abilene Bruce (Penni) Heller, St. John, 34 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, his sister Jane Tharp from Topeka, sister in law Clarine Robson, Abilene, brother in law Glen Holt, Seattle Washington, many nieces, nephews and friends. Danner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Matthew C. Troy, age 55, of Ogden, died July 13, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan. He was born August 14, 1965, at Fort Riley, the son of John Edward and Carole Florence (Russell) Troy. Matt graduated from Manhattan High School in in 1983 and then joined Army Active Reserves for three years. Matt then attended Manhattan Area Vo-Tech and graduated in welding. Matt worked for LG Barcus and Sons as a Construction Superintendent for deep foundations, and worked all over the country for his work. He was a volunteer for the Volunteer Fire Department in Ogden for more than 20 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ogden, Knights of Columbus, Union Local # 1290, and a former member of the Ogden American Legion. Matt was a very proud father, loved to hunt, to smoke all kinds of meat and food on his smoker, and loved all babies and was a baby whisperer. On August 16, 1997, in Ogden, he was married to Janet Renae Martin. Janet survives of the home. She was born October 25, 1932, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Dave and Myrtle (Wood) Wylie. Darlene graduated from high school in Hastings, Nebraska. She was married to Kenneth Hollingshead on June 7, 1951, and they later divorced. Darlene was a manager for a fast-food restaurant in Wyoming for 5 years and worked at Derby Food Center at Kansas State University for 17 years. She enjoyed all arts and crafts and was an avid volunteer and volunteered for RSVP, Homecare &amp; Hospice, United Way, Flint Hills Breadbasket, Riley County Seniors’ Service Center and the Chamber of Commerce. In short Darlene loved to help others. Survivors include her daughter Kathy Fisher of Sierra Vista, AZ; one grandson: Ken Hollingshead (Amy); four great grandchildren: Brittney, Mac, Hazen and Destin; one great-great grandson; one sister: Ella Allen of Manhattan; two sisters in laws: Martha Wylie and Sandy Wood: and nieces and nephews: Wendy Wright (Bob) Myrna Shiever (Terry), Bill Wylie, Ricky Allen (Laura), and Pat Sellers. Charles life began on June 9, 1945, the son of Jim “Tom” and Norma Cleta (Carpenter) Kannady in Joplin, Missouri. He graduated from Valley Center High Class of 1964 and then attended Oklahoma State for 1 ½ years where he played football. He married Linda Gayle Fransham on August 27, 1967, at Valley Center United Methodist Church. He attended Wichita State University while working at Boeing. He finished up his college degree at Friends University in Wichita where he also played football.

Charles taught science and driver’s education in Florence, Marion and Goddard, Kansas. He was a farmer/rancher and a real estate broker. He attended Eastmoor United Methodist, was a member of Lions Club, National Board of Realtors and Marion Advancement Campaign. He enjoyed playing cards and billiards. Most of all he loved attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events.

&nbsp;His loving family includes his wife, Linda of the home; sons and their wives, Dirk and Tonya Kannady of Haysville, Kansas, Eric and Lindsay Kannady of Manhattan, Dax and Emily Kannady of Pilsen; brother, Jimmy Kannady of Valley Center; sister, Teresa Kannady of Benton, Kansas; three grandchildren, Rylie, Avery and Gage Kannady.

For 28 years she held her realtor and real estate broker licenses. She was a member of Unity Church and the Association of Realtors and was listed in the Who’s Who for Women in Business directory. In her younger days she worked at the soda fountain at the drug store in Florence. She also rode horses and participated in parades, was a drum major and also a band majorette. She enjoyed dancing, playing the piano, crocheting, crossword puzzles, traveling, playing cards, sewing, selling Real Estate and jewelry. Most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and would attend as many of their events as she could.

Her loving family includes her children, Nedra (William) Olenick of Halstead, Doug (Vici) Mann, Darla Diamond, Don (Angel) Mann all of Wichita; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl in 2015; sister, Esther Sinclair; brother, Dewy Stevens; and her beloved dog, Mr. Angel. Jane passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the age of 88 years old.

Randall Dean Tate died peacefully on July 13, 2021 at his home in McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on July 26, 1955 in Concordia, Kansas to Ray Dean and Florence Jean Hoard Tate.&nbsp;

Randy was the proud father to three children, Bridget Johnston, Bryan Tate, and Aaron Tate and grandfather to four grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Randy was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Nathan Tate; stepfather Warren Taylor; paternal grandparents Lewis and Thelma Tate; Maternal grandparents Andy and Minnie Hoard; brother Curtis Tate, Stepsister Georgie Taylor, and stepbrother Tom Taylor.

His siblings, Max Tate, Brenda Marcotte, Dedra Landon, and Willie Taylor all survive, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Randy enjoyed a busy life collecting antique clocks, woodworking, and spending time with his friends and family. &nbsp; He was loved deeply by the family of Kyle and Jenny Williams and their four children, to which he was a devoted friend and family member.&nbsp;&nbsp;

James Marvin Eyer, born November 23, 1946 passed away July 14, 2021. He was born in Long Beach, California to the now late Marvin James and Marguerite Marie (Perry) Eyer. He was a feisty and incorrigible child and the same could probably be said for his entire life, add in the descriptives story teller, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was not a perfect man by any stretch of the imagination but he was a perfectly imperfect father to his two children whom survive him. His daughter Kathrina and son James Jr. He was married a time or two or more, the first time to the mother of his children and the last time for 23 years to the late Sherry Lynn Wolf-Eyer. He was most certainly a believer in love and marriage. He lived his life colorfully. He was a heavy equipment operator for his regular nine to five but his passion was fishing, hunting and trapping. He was also served in the Army 1966-1971 with almost three years in Vietnam. He left behind his daughter Kathrina (Christopher) McGarvey, his son James Jr. (Vicki) and his four grand-children Jayme Eyer, Meghan (JT) Wolf, Lori (Collin) Trickle, and Logan Roussel. He also left behind his four great-grandchildren Allison and Christopher Vance, Cullen Goff, and little Ethan Dishman. He’s going to be greatly missed but his legacy lives on in the family he leaves behind. May God Rest his Soul and keep the Devil away. Brenda passed away of a heart attack on the afternoon of July 12, at the age of 77, in Wichita KS doing what she loved to do, planning for a trip.. She was born Dec. 29, 1943 to D.W. and Edith Evans in Lebo, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Roger Lyman on Aug. 9, 1963. They had 2 children and lived in Lebo almost their entire life. Roger entered the Chapman KS nursing home in 2015 and Brenda moved to Abilene KS to finish their life. She was our friend and our mom and sometimes a pain in the butt. Stubborn yet sweet, 100% on the move all the time, sharp as a tack in mind and mouth. Her sense of humor was the best. She was a lot of fun, we will miss her antics. She loved our dad, Paulette, Paige and Lowell so much but her greatest love was for her grandson Brodie. We know she will watch over him and probably haunt the rest of us. She was a clean freak, control freak with a heart of gold and always cheered for the underdog. March Madness was her favorite time of year. She always said “this is your mom” when she called and “I love you” when she hung up. She said what she meant and meant what she said. Never ask her anything unless you wanted the honest to God truth. When she used your middle name you were in trouble and every problem was solved with food. She was there for us every time no matter the time. Love you Mom, there will never be another one like you. Give Dad a hug. We know you are having drinks with crackers and cheese and making fun of your girls. Miss ya already Brenda Jean. Brenda J Lyman - December 29th, 1943-July 13th, 2021

Marilyn Sue Piper, 75, of Wamego, Kansas, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas. Marilyn was born on February 11, 1946, in Formoso, Kansas, the daughter of Laverne and Carol Payne Stansbury. She graduated from Montrose High School in 1964.

Marilyn married Henry John “Hank” Piper on March 3, 1965, in Nelson, Nebraska. Hank and Marilyn relocated from Formoso to Wamego, Kansas in May 1980. Marilyn worked at West Elementary as a secretary until her retirement in 2010. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Wamego.

Marilyn loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid bowler in her younger days. Her favorite past-time was going to the casino with her girlfriends. She was a beautiful lady with a great sense of humor and wit.

On July 5, 2021, William Albert Hussong Jr. peacefully passed away at his home in Oklahoma City, OK – with his family at his side.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill, as he was called by family and friends was born on October 12, 1939 to Dorothy (Hasty) Hussong and William Albert Hussong in Cheverly, MD.

He attended Bladensburg HS, MD, graduating in 1957 and made many lifelong friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;He attended the University of Hawaii where he earned his bachelors degree and met his future wife Martha (Ann) Roniger.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were married in 1962 in Wilsey, KS.

Bill served his country proudly in the United States Army, rising to the distinguished rank of Colonel.&nbsp;&nbsp;During his 30 year, highly decorated career, he served two tours in Viet Nam, taught at the US military academy at West Point, spent many years in military intelligence, and later went on to serve two presidents at the White House.

Upon retirement, Bill and Ann moved to Oklahoma, where he enjoyed and supported many activities and organizations such as Bike across Kansas, 5/7th Cavalry, master family mover, avid reader, firearms aficionado, maintaining beautiful flower gardens, cats, Ann’s many various endeavors, and spending time at the farm.

Bill is predeceased by his parents and wife Ann.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill is survived by his loving family which includes his children Bill (Joan) Hussong of Austin, TX, Shawn (Lisa) Hussong of Norman, OK, and Stephanie (Joe) Valeo of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren Grant, Mason, and Cort Hussong, Juniper, Lily and Daisy Valeo, his sister Dale (Maurice) Grider of Aniston, AL, and Ann’s brother John (Mary) Roniger, Burdick, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;He will be sorely missed by his family and friends and all those he touched and helped on his journey.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 22, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., at the Wilsey Christian Church. Donna Darling Bolek, age 86 of Riley, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021 at her residence.

She was born on October 9, 1934 in Dwight, the daughter of Donald William and Lola Elizabeth (Ledeboer) Howell.

On October 9, 1950, she married Dwayne Joseph Bolek.  He preceded her in death in 1989.

Donna was an LPN from 1969 until 2006 and an antique dealer from 1970 until her retirement a few years ago.  She owned and operated her own antique shop in downtown Riley.  She was proud of the fact that she was the last person to complete LPN training in Manhattan that had not been a high school graduate.  She got her GED in 1974.  Donna started the first  MADD chapter in Kansas in 1984 and her greatest achievement was her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.



She is survived by one son, Dwayne “Abe” Bolek, Jr. and wife Linda of Riley; four daughters, Roxanna Peters of Morganville, Angela Hageman and husband Jerry of Manhattan, Cynthia Baer and husband Karl of Chapman and Alice Webb of Riley; fifteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Lola Bolek Tucker; two grandsons, Billy Webb and Michael Webb; one sister, Delores Jensen and one brother, Darnello Howell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Humboldt Creek Cemetery.

Donna Darling Bolek

Wanda Elaine (Blackwood) Hafner died on July 14, 2021, in Clay Center, Kansas at the age of 90. She was born on a farm near Miltonvale, Kansas on February 13, 1931, the daughter of George and Jenny (Doig) Blackwood. She was the only daughter in a family of six brothers.

Wanda attended Pleasant View grade school and Miltonvale high school. Her final year of high school, she moved to Clay Center, where she worked at Penney's and attended school. She graduated from Clay County Community High School in 1941.

She married Wayne Hafner on October 2, 1949, in Clay Center, Kansas. She was a devoted farm wife and mother to three sons, Rodney, Randy and Bill. Wanda drove a school bus for USD 379 for 31 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, brothers Don, Dean, Jack and Lawrence, as well as grandson, Grant Hafner.

She is survived by three sons, Rodney (Kathy) of Great Bend, Randy (Cathy) of Clay Center and Bill (Joni) of Prairie Village: 2 brothers George (Pat Nazarenus) of Muscatine, Iowa, and Rex (Mary Kaye) Blackwood of Clay Center and sister-in-law, Madeleine Blackwood of Clyde: 6 grandchildren: Lindsay (Keith) Morice, Matt (Samantha) Hafner, Emily (Monte) Green, Melissa (Jeremiah) Ostmeyer, Josh (Heidi) Hafner and Sam Hafner and twelve great grandchildren.

Wanda was a faithful member of the Countryside United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and youth group for many years.

Wayne and Wanda enjoyed square and round dancing for 20 years, traveling to various states to dance. They also took many bus trips together, traveling to Alaska, Canada and throughout the United States. They were also avid KU basketball fans and enjoyed watching the Royals together.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, July 19, at 1: 30 p.m. at the Clay Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Reuben Langat and Sarah Gill officiating.

Respect calls will be held on Monday from 11:30 a.m.&nbsp; until service time at the church.

Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Ralph W. Reese, 88, of Abilene passed away July 11, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He was born May 7, 1933 in Gypsum, Kansas, the son of Harry E. and Lucy M. (VanVoorst) Reese. Ralph enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years from 1953-1957. Ralph was a longtime Abilene businessman, owning Reese Jewelry store. 

He is survived by his sister, Luetta Chaltas, numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends around the Abilene area. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Don Reese, Frank Reese and Dale Reese; and one sister, Charlene McNary.

Wanda Louise (Herzet) Carr passed away on Thursday July 8, 2021 at the age of 97. She was born on October 18, 1923 in rural Marion County.&nbsp; Wanda was the daughter of Fred A. and Dixie Louise (Fox) Herzet. She grew up on a farm with her 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She attended a country school and graduated from Marion High School in 1940. As a teenager, Wanda worked at the Elgin Hotel in the housekeeping department.

August 3, 1940, Wanda was united in marriage to Max E. Carr.&nbsp; She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.&nbsp; Wanda enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, embroidery and sewing. In her later years she enjoyed painting, reading, keeping track of her family on Facebook with her tablet and working jigsaw puzzles. Taking care of her family was her greatest joy.&nbsp; Wanda was a member of Eastmoor United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Sew Much Love sewing club, and adult Sunday school classes. She assisted with prom, funeral, and other various church dinners.&nbsp; She loved serving in the kitchen and was always asked to “make her gravy” for the dinners.

Ruth Heiser, a devoted wife and mother, passed away July 13th, 2021, at Salem Home at the age of 94.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ruth was born February 4th, 1927, to Adolph and Lydia Skibbe in Marion, KS.&nbsp; She attended grade school at Kreutzinger School House and graduated from Marion High School.&nbsp; Ruth married Charles September 1, 1949, at Strassburg Baptist Church, and they celebrated 67 years of marriage in 2016.&nbsp; Ruth and Charles had a small dairy farm in their early years of marriage. They sold cream and milk, along with eggs from their many chickens, along with tending a large garden.&nbsp; They were blessed with 2 sons to help tend the farm, Mark and Don.&nbsp; In the mid 60’s she obtained her beauty certificate and ran a beauty shop out of their home for over 35 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was a devoted member of the Strassburg Baptist Church; involved in choir, served as church pianist, a Sunday School teacher and involved in Kings Daughters for many years.&nbsp; She was a skilled seamstress and used her talent to support the White Cross.&nbsp; As a deacon’s wife she loved entertaining.&nbsp; Ruth loved baking, especially making pies and bread.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ruth is lovingly remembered by her son, Mark Heiser and his wife Katherine; grandchildren Stephanie Albrecht (husband Kelly) and Krista Donahue (husband Andrew), and 4 great-granddaughters; CheyLynn, Harper, Nessa, and Molly.&nbsp; She is predeceased by her husband Charles, and son Don.&nbsp;&nbsp;
