
WYANDOTTE COUNTY —The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department has confirmed the identity of partial human remains found last month as that of a 67-year-old man who was reported missing in late 2023.
On April 25, detectives from the KCKPD’s Major Case Unit were dispatched to the 3400 block of N. 32nd Street, near the Quindaro Cemetery, on the report of a man who had found human remains while walking in a densely wooded area, according to a media release from police.
Forensic testing has now confirmed that the remains belong to 67-year-old Wilfred Powell. He was last seen on December 13, 2023 near 7th and Washington Blvd., but had frequented the area where the remains were discovered.
This incident remains under investigation by the KCKPD Missing Persons Unit. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). All tips remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
