SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating the father of a Kansas teen for alleged child abuse.
On Monday evening, police were dispatched to a local hospital in response to a child abuse report involving a 13-year-old boy, according to Wichita Police Officer Kris Gupilan. The investigation revealed that the suspect involved was the boy's 39-year-old father Dallas L. Ellis, according to the Sedgwick County daily booking report.
Officers proceeded to the 11000 block of W. Jennie Circle in Wichita to apprehend the Ellis. He refused to cooperate and exit the residence. In response, police negotiators and SWAT were deployed to the scene. After several hours of negotiation, Ellis ultimately surrendered without incident and was taken into custody peacefully.
Just after 8a.m. Tuesday Ellis was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of abuse of a child; reckless great bodily harm/abuse head trauma/permanent disability/disfigurement, according to the jail arrest report. He bonded out of jail on Tuesday afternoon.
Police will present the case to the District Attorney’s Office.
